April 10, 2019

2 wins and a loss yesterday, however it was disappointing that Siegemund couldn't at least force a third set against Haddad Maia, having led 5-2 in the second set.

A couple of value selections for tonight, with a few more scheduled to start in the next hour or two that I won't include on the official record. Those are:
- Minella to defeat Ferro in Lugano
- De Bakker to defeat Coria in Barletta

One to avoid in my opinion today is Fernando Verdasco, fresh off the birth of his first child last week. Whilst I don't trust Menendez-Maceiras, it is enough to avoid making a play on Verdasco.

As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Good Luck Today,

Giraldo vs Klahn (Approx 06:30am AEST)

Here I think there is an instance where I am happy to take into strong consideration the qualifying form of Giraldo in the context of this match-up. Santiago Giraldo looked incredibly solid in his two straight sets victories in qualifying over James Ward and Christopher Eubanks. With a high first serve percentage the catalyst, he was able to save 3 of 4 break points across the two matches, whilst converting 5 of his 10 opportunities on opponents serve.

As Klahn sits with a career clay record of 18 wins and 21 losses, with no significant form on any surface to warrant a confident position, I don't see how Giraldo isn't shorter in this situation. Whilst Santiago isn't the top 30 player he was 5 years ago, he has shown himself to still to be quite servicable on the clay. Whilst neither of Ward or Eubanks are exactly suited to clay, neither is Klahn. The comfort factor that will come with Giraldo having gained two matches on this surface will be invaluable, especially as Klahn hasn't played on the surface since last year.

Happy to make a 3.5 unit selection on Giraldo at what looks to be a generous price. I would have Giraldo significantly shorter.

Sorribes Tormo vs McHale (Approx 02:00am AEST)

All signs point to a Sorribes Tormo victory here in my opinion.

Previous surface form certainly favours Sorribes Tormo, with the majority of her ranking points generated from her clay form over the last 12 months. Sorribes Tormo took the step back to ITF clay late in the year and it paid dividends, winning the tournament without dropping a set. To start 2019, we have also seen perhaps a slight uptick in form on hardcourt as well, so I feel this may also translate to a slight lift in form on the clay for the 22 year old.

There isn't a lot of clay form for McHale to note, having lost 6 of her last 7 on the surface. She played Monterrey last week instead of Charleston, so Sorribes Tormo has been able to commence her transition toward clay (albeit not the same clay) a little earlier.

Previous form at the tournament also favours Sorribes Tormo, having made the semi final here two years ago as a 20 year old, whilst this is McHale's first time in Bogota. I think the conditions and altitude all suit Sorribes Tormo here.

I think the Sorribes Tormo line of -2.5 games is a solid prospect here when you factor in surface and recent form. SST should be far too consistent in the conditions for McHale, who has also been erratic this year on hardcourt, let alone clay. I am happy to make a 3 unit selection on Sorribes Tormo at the -2.5 game handicap.
