lNew Mandate for 3CD

This morning I had the opportunity to attend the Canadian Council for Career Development (3CD) annual general meeting where they announced their new mandate. It was decided that 3CD would no longer rely on support from the Canadian Career Development Foundation (the organization currently updating the standards and guidelines for career development professionals) and strike out on their own.

I was impressed with the 3CD board's ability to look at the landscape and create a mandate that fills a need, but also provides room for evolution. As someone who has been involved with nonprofit organizations at the board level for over 20-years, I am impressed with their work.

The Mandate of the Canadian Council for Career Development is to strengthen the professional identity of all career development practitioners and to promote career development for all Canadians.

  • Communicate relevant career development information to the career development field
  • Build partnerships to activate career development in Canada
  • Host a community of practice for career development practitioners

ASPECT, on behalf of our members, is a member of 3CD which is an umbrella group of organizations across Canada. We support the work that 3CD is doing and will keep you up-to-date on any developments.

ASPECT Member Virtual Meetings

Please join us for another ASPECT Member Meeting on Wednesday, January 20 from 1:00-2:00 pm.

At this meeting, we will check-in to find out how organizations are delivering services under the latest public health orders and see how everyone is doing. All ASPECT members are welcome!

Last member discussion, we discussed how to engage youth in signing up for programs and the production of "how-to" videos. There was interest in learning how to record the screen on a phone to show clients how to navigate apps and resources on a mobile device. We thought that this might interest you.

At this time of uncertainty and stress, learning skills to navigate the challenges of our work and personal lives is paramount to maintaining our own health, wellness, and sense of joy.  Mindfulness is a practice of non-judgmental awareness. It is an ancient practice with solid clinical and neuroscientific evidence in modern times. In this workshop participants will learn formal and informal practices of mindfulness, meditation, and the science of happiness, through presentation discussion and embodied practice opportunities. Labour market recovery goes into reverse in December

The Conference Board of Canada economist Liam Daly offers the following insights on December’s Labour Force Survey (LFS):

“Rising COVID-19 cases through the late fall and into winter led to shutdowns across the country, which weighed on employment growth. In all, employment fell by 62,600 in December, the first decline in employment since April. With restrictions remaining in place or even being tightened into 2021, employment growth is likely to decline further in January and remain weak in the first half of the year.

Despite the December decline, there was some positive news as job losses were mostly concentrated in industries directly affected by shutdowns, showing some resiliency in industries that remained open.”

  • After decelerating in previous months, the jobs recovery went into reverse in December as employment fell by 62,600 in the final month of 2020.
