April 2019

Thanks to everyone who participated in last month's BPW events. Between the Reality Store and the Equal Pay Day Rally, we had lots of positive media coverage and connection to the community.

We continue to grow this club and I'm proud of us working together for the betterment of this community instead of solely focusing on ourselves. We all have busy lives and its easy to get caught up with the notion: "What's in it for me?"

This is something I've thought about for a while and talked about with the executive board. Stay tuned - a few changes are coming! ;)

Reality Store

We had approximately 300 students attend this year from 11 feeder schools and the Jr. High.  How do you say thank you to our wonderful volunteers?! We had 90+ volunteers throughout the day, including the KC baseball team and CHS FBLA members. We couldn’t do it without these fantastic, hard-working volunteers.

Our donors were amazing:  Thrivent Financial grant thanks to Michelle; goodie bag items and $100 donation from Elks Lodge 493 and a $150 donation from Monken Chevrolet Buick GMC. All copies were donated from multiple businesses. We had a number of items donated for the goodie bags, and our volunteers were fed well.

In addition to those listed above, this year’s donors included Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School, Edward Jones – Jay Luse, Executive Business Products, Family Video, Farmers State Bank, Heritage Woods of Centralia, Irvin Macz Funeral Home, Kaskaskia Valley Community Credit Union, McDonald's, Mid-America Insurance Agency, Midland States Bank, Mitchell Printing, Monical's Pizza, Moran Queen Boggs Funeral Home, Peoples National Bank, Regions Bank, Rose Printing, SAFE, Sonic, SSM St. Mary's Hospital, State Farm Insurance – Jack Graham, Subway and USBank.

With all the donations, we not only had no out of pocket expense from the club or Rotary, we had money left over to pay for the thank you ads in the local papers, donate $100 to the Junior High to thank them for allowing us to use their gym, and purchase supplies for next year’s event.

We still need to review the evaluations, but in-person comments received were very positive. Everyone loved being in the big gym, and the students and teachers seemed to enjoy the experience.

Thank you to everyone who helped in any way to make our 25th annual Reality Store a huge success.
