November 2021

FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to BPW 2021-2022

 "Never Stop Dreaming"

Greetings Sisters. We are now coming upon the holiday season. My favorite time of year. Hallmark has started playing Christmas movies, Sirius has started playing Christmas music, and the sounds and sights of the season are upon us. All seems right with the world. Mostly. I'm one of those people who celebrates Christmas all year. I understand people who don't get as excited about it as I do, so I try to keep it to myself. But just know I'm all Christmas songs, trees, ribbons, bows, lights, decorations and love on the inside. And I'm super excited that we can have an in-person Christmas Party this year.

We will be adopting a family to buy gifts for again this year. Our goal is to collect $300 for a family with two children. This is such a nice way to help brighten the lives of those less fortunate and help a struggling family have a joyful holiday season. So please if you are able to donate, you can do so at the November Meeting, or by sending a check to me at 2008 Shook LN, Centralia. We will be shopping either right before, or right after Thanksgiving and we have to turn the gifts in by the first week of December. So I'm asking for donations to be in by Nov. 19. No amount is too small and every little bit helps. We will also take donations of your left over wrapping paper to wrap gifts with, so that we don't have to spend the money we collect on that.

The Scholarship Committee has been busy updating the applications and they will be available online soon. And, the Scholarship Fundraising Committee has been very successful with their T-Shirt fundraiser. There are still some shirts left and you can get one for $20 at the meeting or by contacting Tammy Resch.

The last thing I want to mention is Interim Board on November 13th at the Seasons Lodge at Rend Lake. I have really enjoyed attending them since I've been a member and I encourage you to also. It's a great way to learn how things work at the state level, network with other LO's, and get ideas we can bring back to our club. You still have time to register and you can do so at the IFBWC website. It will also be available through zoom. So if you can't attend in person, you can attend online. There is a zoom registration available on the website as well.

I hope to see you all at the meeting next week, and I wish you all a very Happy and safe Thanksgiving.

Until we meet again,
Carrie Perkins-Schnicker, President

EQUAL PAY DAY RALLY
We had a great Equal Pay Day Rally this year and finally got to do our March for Equality. It started out with Councilman Robert Smith presenting us with the Equal Pay Day Proclamation. State President Amanda Burk gave a history of IFBWC, the women's rights movements and the importance of continuing to push for change. Mackenzie Perez gave an excellent reading of her winning essay on the extreme difference in pay between male and female athletes, and received a standing ovation. Here she is in the above picture receiving her $100 check. President Perkins-Schnicker finished out the rally and then lead the march to City Hall accompanied by BPW Members and Councilman Smith. The event was live on our BPW Facebook page and was recorded, so you can go to it and watch the whole rally. A special thank you to all those who attended and helped during the event.
