A digestible guide to the dots worth watching
NEED TO KNOW
CHAMPIONS OF THE ROAD

It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks on the roads of Europe, and for many of the dots still making their way to Meteora, TCRNo6 is not over yet. But we do have a winner: James Hayden, who rolled to the finish 8 days, 22 hours, and 56 minutes. Matthew Falconer and Björn Lenhard finished not long after, before a fierce battle for the remaining top ten places ensued, and Ede Harrison won the women’s race. The finale typified everything that’s exciting about self-supported racing, and we were glad to have Josh Ibbett commentating on the race’s every move.

ALL EYES ON KYRGYZSTAN

With the TCR having drawn to a close, the dotwatcher’s attention can now whole-heartedly turn to The Silk Road Mountain Race, due to start in Kyrgyzstan on August 18th. Much is expected of this inaugural edition of the race, owing to the extremely remote nature of the regions it traverses, the testing, unpaved race route, the >4,000m altitudes it reaches, and the sheer unknown of this former Soviet, Central Asian state. We take a look at all of the above, as well as the race favourites, and more, in our race preview.

ADVENTURING AS A SOLO FEMALE

Trien Pauwels has undertaken solo bikepacking adventures in parts of the world most of us have barely heard of, and she documents her travels beautifully, too. In this bikepacking.com feature, focusing around two riding experiences in Morocco and Oman, Trien explores some of her experiences - good and bad - travelling as a woman on her own, and reminds us that “We can’t hide, we have to stand up and enjoy life.”

LAST CHANCE - WIN A TRIP TO RIDE THIS YEAR'S JAPANESE ODYSSEY

Like art, riding can be a tool for exploration and expression. The folks at Ritchey, 7Mesh and Apidura are looking for creative cyclists who can document their experiences of bike travel through any artistic medium -- be it visual, song, dance or written. What’s in it for you? They’ll send one winner to Tokyo to document their experience of The Japanese Odyssey, a 2,600km bikepacking journey later this year.

ENTRIES CLOSE AUGUST 19th.

CHAT FUNCTION NOW AVAILABLE ON DOTWATCHER.CC

Dotwatching, by its nature, involves a lot of time spent at a screen (and refreshing contents - over, and over, again), but that doesn’t mean it should be a solo activity. We love to speculate, cast opinion, and discuss the progress of races with fellow dotwatchers, and guessed we wouldn’t be alone either, so we’ve added a chat function to the DotWatcher.cc page so we can start sharing the dotwatching experience.

If only there were an Instagram account that compiled pictures of the most amazing roads in the world, for us to dream about riding one day...oh, wait.
