The new year has come and soon it will be spring and warm again.
Although the health restriction are limiting our activities, we are working hard to keep guitarists and audiences engaged.
Musical excerpts from our Victoria Showcase concert have been posted on our website at www.victoriaguitarsociety.ca
We are planning another online Masterclass before the GVPAF festival submission deadline.
We are looking for volunteers to evaluate our website and submit an anonymous questionnaire. If you have a good eye for website design and content, please fill out our questionnaire here and help us look sharper this year.
NOTICE OF AGM
January 23rd
1pm - 3pm
via Video Conference
On January 23rd, the Victoria Guitar Society will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The meeting had been delayed due to the short notice and the increase of the COVID restrictions in November.
Our online meeting will provide a review of the operating year 2019/2020. It is also an opportunity at the AGM for new Directors to come on board.
If you are volunteer minded, have some time and take an interest in non-profit musical adventures, please consider joining the ranks at the Director level. Our Directors are "working" volunteers with voting privilege who share the administration and footwork by dividing projects into tasks according to our skill levels and time availability. A self-nomination form will be available shortly for volunteers to submit. The following experience or training would be an asset:
Finance, accounting
Management, non-profit administration
Legal (contract, copyright)
Digital communications (website/email/video-audio editing)
Print/Radio/Social media (press releases, graphic design, advertising, blogging)
Community engagement and volunteer management
Education, teaching
Fundraising, membership development
Publications, communication, media
Registration sign-up to join the video meeting on Jan 21st will also soon be available. Check the website regularly.
Registration for the 2021 virtual Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival (GVPAF) is now open and closes... soon!. So register without delay. With the virtual format, GVPAF can accept entries and provide adjudications to all students, regardless of location. This is exciting news for students/musicians who missed last year's cancelled festival. Even more exciting is the new "opportunity to participate in a Local Stream Qualifying Round which allows for recommendation and advancement to the National Music Festival".
Check the rules and the syllabus at GVPAF for details.
VGS is excited to continue our support of the GVPAF - Classical Guitar division and this year's registrants in categories: Junior, Intermediate, Senior (per the GVPAF Syllabus) may be eligible for reimbursement of their registration fees. (a maximum of 15 reimbursements, on a first come first serve basis, from participants in the Greater Victoria area)
The form can be submitted any time after registration is paid and can be accessed here: GVPAF REIMBURSEMENT. Approved reimbursements will be processed after adjudications are completed in April.
