In the Neighborhood

Augusta

During the 2020-2021 school year, a group of five IFLS libraries collaborated to offer monthly virtual teen programs on Zoom. Libraries provided free grab bags containing snacks, activities, and crafting supplies for 12-18 year-olds to pick-up and use during the virtual events. Themes included author talks, musicians, games, crafting, cooking, cultural activities, and “adulting” skills. More than a dozen participati each month.

For th 2021-22 school year we’ve invited other Wisconsin libraries to join the collaboration. At this time there are 17 libraries involved. Contact is Stacey Brown at sbrown@augustalibrary.org.

A group of people gathered around a table outside, listening to Kathryn Springer speaking

Not to leave out the adults, Augusta Memorial Public Library hosted a group of eleven women joined best-selling author Kathryn Springer for lemonade, cookies and an advanced reading from her upcoming book, The Gathering Table.

Somerset

The Somerset Public Library is hosting a grand opening celebration to showcase their beautiful new expansion. Take a tour, win prizes, enjoy activities, and more! Drop in this Thursday, September 16 3:30 - 6:30.

Dresser

Dresser’s Geraldine E. Anderson’s Village Library’s summer reading program served 400 school age children over a 10 week period with the generous collaboration and support of the local schools district child care program, St. Croix Falls Public Library staff, and volunteers including some of Dresser library’s own trustees!

Dresser’s local restaurants contributed gift certificates as reading incentives and grand prizes for the Beanstack program which was much more widely received in 2021.

Dresser staff is so very thankful for such a supportive community, local libraries, and trustees.

Remembering Michael Norman

Michael served many years on the IFLS Board. He often visited libraries either as a board member or when speaking about his books. He was a huge supporter of libraries.

“He inspired generations in many different ways. He will be missed,” says John Thompson, IFLS Director. This 30-second video is hilarious and charming and quintessentially Michael Norman!
