Council Tax alert and Westfield Council meeting

With their planning decisions blighting the town, Croydon Town Centre looking further run down and it recently coming to light that they (we as taxpayers) are over £13 billion in debt (yes with a B).  Croydon Council have two crunch meetings on Monday night.
Their budget council meeting on Monday, 2nd March, 2020 6.30 pm will cover their budget plans and plans for your money via the council tax.  This years proposals include the following bumper increases:
  • A 1.99% increase in the Council Tax for Croydon Services
  • A 2.00% increase in the Adult Social Care precept
  • The GLA increase of 3.6%.
Remember this is a council which had over 18 members of staff on over £100,000 per year and has the (borrowed) money to fund:
  • The Rise Gallery £9,600 from one fund and a further £4,370 from another.
  • £9,500 on a Peace Festival.
  • £5,000 to the Oval Tavern.
  • £51,000 to the Remarkable Productions Company Ltd.
  • £160,000 to Boxpark.
Immediately after that meeting another meeting is being held in the council chamber this time the Extraordinary Council Meeting at 8.45 pm is covering the following:
“In light of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (“Westfield”) reporting that it has removed the proposed redevelopment of the Whitgift Centre from its development project portfolio, the following Members of the Council greatly regret the current Administration’s incompetence in losing this opportunity to regenerate Croydon’s Town Centre."
This is bound to be a lively meeting and one covering an important issue for our town.  The current administration has overseen a complete collapse of the town centre and failed to deliver the Westfield development.  What is their plan B?
These meetings are open to the public.  If you can please come on down and make the council see the strength of feeling about the way they waste out hard earned money and their failure to secure a new shopping centre for Croydon.
Both meetings, Monday, 2nd March Council Chamber, Town Hall, Katharine Street, Croydon CR0 1NX. From 6:30pm.

Get along Monday if you can.
