Interview with Addiscombe East Councillor Jeet Bains

Conservative Croydon Councillor Jeet Bains stood in Luton North in the recent General Election.  He first became a councillor in 2010 in the then Coulsdon West ward.  In 2018 he campaigned in Addiscombe East and split the ward with Labour’s Councillor Maddie Henson winning the other seat, a somewhat surprising result.

We interviewed Jeet about the campaign, politics in Croydon and wider issues.

“in Addiscombe East. We focus on helping and making a difference to local residents rather than fighting over our political differences. I think local people quite like this arrangement”

"We have a great tradition of being free to hear all sides of an argument make their cases robustly, and we shouldn’t lose this. Shouting that the end is nigh is, I suggest, counter-productive”

“Throughout the campaign, I felt that in this election the electorate had a clear choice between a Marxist agenda from Labour and an economy-boosting agenda from the Conservatives”

DEMOC - Democratically Elected Mayor of Croydon

The campaign for a Democratically Elected Mayor of Croydon ("DEMOC") is a group of local residents who have joined together for the sole purpose of seeing a democratically elected mayor installed in Croydon.  The campaign is supported by Croydon Conservatives, Croydon South Labour, The Brexit Party and Libertarian Party Candidates, and the Christian Parties Alliance.

The campaign through a petition, is calling on Croydon Council to embark on a referendum so that the people of Croydon can choose if they would like a directly elected mayor instead of an un-elected council leader.

This is a major local campaign that will be coming your way.  If you would like to know more watch the videos below and visit their website or on Facebook.
