We caught up with AmirKaka for an insight into Map Making.
Q: When did you start Minecraft Map Making?
A: December 2019
Q: What is your favourite map that you've made?
A: Planet Parkour 2 , The Great Fall
Q: What is your favourite map that someone else made?
A: Parkour Pyramid by Hielke and Parkour Ravine by Jerrah
Q: What maps are you working on at the moment?
A: My main focus right now is on a very weird and interesting parkour project but I have a few other smaller projects in the works
Q: What keeps you motivated when working on large map projects?
A: The community's feedback honestly, I love making Minecraft maps, and seeing people's responses and their feedback really helps make larger projects worth the effort, and I wouldn't mind going an extra mile to keep things fresh and make improvements
Q: What is a challenge you had to overcome whilst making a Minecraft Map?
A: There are always new challenges when it comes to making maps, I always try to learn new things and ways to improve to create a better experience for the players
Q: What's a feature you would like to see added to Minecraft for Map Makers?
A: Custom model data for blocks, it's not a huge change but it would really help make things easier for making custom blocks and making them interactive
Q: In your opinion, what key components make a Minecraft Map successful?
A: The beginning of the map is very important in my opinion, it should show the player what the map is and what they should expect from it, and if it can fulfill those expectations, then it's a good map
Q: Have you ever competed in a Map Jam?
A: Yes, I was in 1 Map Jam! Although I overestimated what I can do in just one week and I was unable to finish the map in time
Q: What advice would you have for any aspiring Map Makers?
A: Don't worry about not having a concrete idea, most projects start from the smallest ideas, you would not believe what a small idea can expand to overtime
