Life in Eastern Oregon...

The state of Oregon is requiring masks in all public places... even at the Sea Lion Caves in Florence!
Every night before bed, we read a Psalm aloud with our kids. We read the same one every night for a whole week, talking about what it means. We’ve been doing this for about 9 months now, meaning that earlier this month, we were on Psalm 37, which is long... especially when you’re trying to read to three little wiggly, tired kids.

But every time we read it, I kept fixating on verses 3 and 4:

Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.

We are currently living on a 600-acre ranch where safe pasture abounds. The barbed wire fence surrounding the majority of the fields ensures that cattle (and kids) are safe from the largest and most dangerous predators. The water trough is regularly filled. The trees provide adequate shade from the day’s heat.

And as we’ve learned to dwell here, as we’ve trusted God to show us the next step, as we’ve learned to delight in Him and not a completed checklist, we’ve seen Him give us desires of (and for) our hearts.
When we realized that God had provided full funding for our family this month (a desire that had been on our hearts for over two years), we saw the little things He orchestrated in connection with that, such as highlighting Ephesians 3:20 yet again and perfectly filling our partner prayer calendar.

But I think what we’re seeing now is that He gives us the desires of our hearts AS we trust Him; AS we do good; AS we dwell wherever He has planted us. Likewise, safe pasture isn’t dependent on our location, but on our hearts before God, on our obedience to Him. Safe pasture is possible only through Christ.

Yes, we’re still living in a pandemic. Yes, our world is topsy-turvy. Yes, some things and places feel very not safe right now.

But we praise God for this safe pasture, for giving us the desires of our hearts, and for going before us in all things.

We are thankful for you.

In July, we...
- Explored all the beaches we could find on the Oregon Coast over a long weekend (and found starfish, spotted seals and sea lions, jumped over waves, and collected rocks)...
- Celebrated our Clara Mae’s third birthday (with a sweet little party at the park, complete with cupcakes and tie dye napkins)...
- Tried on princess dresses and fake teeth (thanks, Aunt Betty!!)...
- And found a kid’s guitar at a thrift store and had lots of jam sessions (and Allen played a grown-up guitar with a praise team at church one week!).

Coming Up

We are nearing the end of our prefield time! We are sharing about Togo at a church in Bonanza, OR on Aug. 9 and waiting for borders to open so we can attend language school in France. Before then, we hope to visit family and friends throughout the US.

Support Status

We are fully funded! In mid-July, God provided all of the monthly and one-time funds that we needed to get our official financial clearance from ABWE. Any new partners will now directly increase our ministry budget on the field. And any additional one-time gifts we receive will go towards extra language school or vehicle costs. Thank you, partners and thank You, God!!

Togo Central Team

The Togo Central Team is newly formed within the last year. As most of our teammates begin settling in the Kara region, you can be praying for our team by name: Lee & Violette (team leaders), Jane (already in Kara), Meredith, Shawn & Becca, and Jonathan & Michelle. Thank you!

We would love to stay connected! Use the links below to follow along on what God has called us to.
