A Reminder from Our Preschooler...
January 2020

If you don't know anything else about our 4-year-old daughter Ruth, you should know that she loves horses. Like, a ton. She talks about them, plays with them, pretends to be one, watches movies and shows about them, wears clothes with horses... so we shouldn't have been surprised when she asked if there were any Bible verses about horses. We looked one up and started working with her to memorize it:

Psalm 20:7
"Some trust in chariots, some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God."

Anytime we run through her memory verses, this on is in the mix. She recites it without problem and we talk about how it means we can trust in God, even when everything else seems to be failing.

Oh, how we needed that verse this month! We've had quite the run of negative temperatures and with it, quite the run of vehicle troubles (which is a common theme in the last couple years). At one point, both vehicles were on the fritz and, over the last three weeks, we've had to have both of them towed at one time or another to the auto shop we use and/or our home. We've replaced batteries, looked things up online, replaced fuses, called my dad for help, the whole 9 yards.

And then God reminded us of Ruth's memory verse: "Some trust in chariots (or Jeep Wranglers), some in horses (or Honda Odysseys), but we trust in the name of the Lord our God."

In a month where the things we could (almost) always count on were literally falling apart, it was a good reminder that we don't actually trust in those things. Our hope is not in our vehicles. Our trust is not in their ability to start every morning. Our hope and trust is in the name of the Lord our God.

This month, we praise God for...
  • His provision in the midst of our vehicle troubles
  • New partners (including a new partnering church!)
  • Wisdom as we continue planning out the remainder of our prefield time
In January, we...
  • Celebrated Hudson's 1st birthday with a family donut date;
  • Celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary;
  • Said goodbye to Oggie, our faithful pup, as she went to live with her new family (she couldn't move with us to France or Togo);
  • Watched movies during sick days;
  • And hosted an "Imaginings" party with our Sunday School class.
Coming Up

We anticipate purchasing our shipping container in February and begin loading it up! We're working to get our house on the market this spring, qualify for Field Prep Seminar in March/April, and wrap up life in Alaska within the next few months. Phew! Can't believe this time is here!
Pre-Field Update

We are at 82% of our monthly support! Praise the Lord! We also have about 93% of our Outfit & Passage need. Our O&P will begin decreasing soon as we continue purchasing items to pack and ship and make arrangements to attend FPS. If you'd like to see our "top priority" packing list, click HERE.
Team Update

The Togo Central Team is beginning to take shape; some teammates are finishing language school and our new team leaders are relocating from Mango to Kara. What an exciting time to be engaging in God's global work!
