Issue 2

Next meeting is August 6 2-3 p.m., Beaverton Community Center, 12350 SW 5th St., Beaverton, Vose Room
View the agenda here
There was no regular meeting in July.
As with most things, League activity has been slower during the summer. Thank you to everyone who made it out to the Potluck on June 30th! The weather and view (see photo below!) was great and there was lots of good food and conversation.
Thank you also to those who filled out the meeting-times survey. The Mondays at 2-3 p.m. option was most popular, but we are also working on establishing an evening meeting at least once a quarter. Stay tuned!
VOTE TO BE HELD AT AUG. 6 MEETING

At our next meeting we will discuss the
Metro affordable housing bond.  The League can and does support or oppose issues based on our positions that have been developed through study. We never support or oppose candidates or parties. The decision to support, oppose, or to take no position on ballot measures is done at the level that the ballot measure will appear. In this case that is Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties.

Debbie Aiona, the Action Chair for LWV of Portland is requesting that the Portland League support the Metro bond and has requested that LWV of Clackamas County and our Washington County Unit also take a look at the measure. We will discuss Debbie's argument for supporting the measure at the meeting.

One consideration is that there is a constitutional amendment that will be on the state ballot (Ballot Measure 401) that has an impact on how far the Metro bond measure will go. The state League Board has already decided to support this ballot measure Measure 401.

If you would like more information before voting whether to support the Metro ballot measure at our meeting, please read the bond itself linked above. Here are two other resources that may be helpful:

ACLU Conference

Thanks to our members who attended the We the People Conference in Salem June 23rd! Our own Washington County unit Co-Chair, Josie Koehne attended and took notes, which can be read at this link.
Volunteer Opportunities
Only one person has filled out the Volunteer Sign-Up Form!  We will need help at upcoming Civics Education workshops, voter forums and we would love someone to join our leadership committee as Recording Secretary! Other needs are to research and write about ballot measures for our newsletter and social media page and help create the newsletter. Sign up here!
