Digital HR Leaders.

To celebrate, the launch of the
Digital HR Leaders Podcast, today’s newsletter is a bumper edition. I’ve handpicked some great articles from Bernard Marr (on the 10 critical skills required for the future of work), Dave Ulrich (on his HR Business Partner 2.0 model), the World Economic Forum (on the overwhelming business case for diversity) and Lars Schmidt (on the identity crisis facing the HR function).

What is the state of Employee Experience in 2019?
We hear a lot about Employee Experience (EX) with perhaps the best description coming from Mark Levy, who defines EX as doing things WITH and FOR the workforce rather than TO them. Volker Jacobs and his team at TI-people have built a deserved reputation for delivering landmark progress in the EX space including the development of a model to determine the business value of EX (see FIG 1) below. TI-people has combined forces with the teams at myHRfuture and the HR Congress to launch a study into the State of Employee Experience in 2019.
The survey takes seven minutes to completeTo participate, click on the button below. Anyone that completes the survey will get a copy of the results.

New content from myHRfuture!

Over the last two years, together with over 30 clients, Volker Jacobs and the TI People have spent their time and effort exploring Employee Experience - how to define and manage it. They have created a definition, a concept for the management and deployment of Employee Experience, and the underpinning technology to roll it out at scale. Given the tangible impact that Employee Experience can have on a business and the employees, the TI-People are interested to learn more about Employee Experience in your organisation in 2019.

In this collection of data-driven articles from April, David highlights the 2019 Deloitte Global Human Capital Trends report as a sign that people analytics is entering a ‘Golden Age’. The Article of the Month sees Amit Mohindra compare the growth of people analytics to that of quantum physics in the first 30 years of the 20th Century. There are specials on behavioural economics and diversity as well as articles from the likes of Dave Ulrich, Jonathan Ferrar, Josh Bersin, Peter Cappelli and Laszlo Bock. Watch out too for case studies from Amazon, Google and Capital One.

Content we're loving, this week...

The prolific Bernard Marr emphasises the importance of committing to lifelong learning in order to succeed in the future workplace, and highlights ten of the most important skills that will be required. These tally nicely with the findings of our recent HR Skills for the Future study.
Dave Ulrich updates his seminal model by outlining 13 pivots to the HR Business Partner role. As Ulrich succinctly describes “HR is not about HR but about delivering value to multiple stakeholders.
As Lars Schmidt writes in his punchy article in Fast Company, the rapid transformation of HR is leading to an identity crisis as an increasing number of companies eschew the ‘HR’ label in favour of nomenclature such as ‘People’ of ‘Talent & Culture’. The name is less important than the field raising its game in terms of its capability and impact.
As Vijay Eswaran outlines, the moral argument for diversity in the workplace is weighty enough, but the financial impact – as evidenced in a number of studies – makes this a no-brainer. Eswaran weaves together data, examples from around the world and his own experience in building and scaling a multinational business to create a powerful narrative.

According to Richard Farson PhD, psychologist, educator and author of The Power of Design, asserts:
"Design, the creation of form, has the power to transform culture, ignite education, foster community, and even broker peace. Design achieves its power because it can create situations, and a situation is more determining of what people will actually do than is personality, character, habit, genetics, unconscious motives or any other aspect of our individual makeup."
When done successfully, human centred design enhances the user experiences at every touch point and fuels the creation of products and services that deeply resonate with customers. HR has taken notice. So why not apply design thinking to improve the employee experience with the same care given to delight customers? Take a look at this informative video on the 6 Trends Linking HR & Design Thinking.
