Reminder: Dean’s Outstanding Staff Awards 2021

The Faculty of Arts & Science is accepting nominations for the Dean's Outstanding Staff Awards, which recognize and celebrate outstanding performance by administrative and technical staff in support of the Faculty’s mission of teaching and research excellence.

There are four award categories to which nominations may be submitted:

  • Dean's Student Life Award
  • Dean's Outstanding Technical Service Award
  • Dean's Outstanding Administrative Service Award
  • Dean's Distinguished Long Service Award
The deadline for nomination submissions is February 1, 2021. Nomination packages should be sent to adminhr.artsci@utoronto.ca.

Managing Staff Workload and Well-being

Last year was a challenge for our community. HR & Equity encourages everyone to think about how to care for themselves, and how to prioritize the well-being of their staff and colleagues, whether working from home or on campus. To assist, senior leaders at U of T have compiled a list of workload and wellness best practices and suggestions.

Celebrating Black History Month 2021 — Decanal Lecture

In celebration of Black History Month, Dean Melanie Woodin invites everyone to hear distinguished historian and Harvard Professor Vince Brown on "The Coromantee War: Charting the Course of an Atlantic Slave Revolt”. Professor Melanie Newton from the Department of History will moderate the discussion on February 3, 2021 at 7 pm.

Introducing MS Teams Breakout Rooms

Teams breakout rooms are finally here, but how do we use them? The Information Technology Services — EASI team has scheduled a Connect+Learn session for January 21, 2021. If you can't attend, links to previous session recordings and resources can be found on the Past Connect+Learn Sessions page.

Next Steps Conference

The Next Steps Conference, for students and recent alumni, is almost here. Please encourage your students to attend the online event next week from January 25–27, 2021. Next Steps is a great way to support Arts & Science students and new grads with career exploration, professional development and virtual networking with our remarkable alumni. Registration is required.

Director Search for the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy — Committee Membership Nominations

The Faculty of Arts & Science is now accepting nominations for individuals to serve on the search committee for the new Director of the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. Nominations for the committee should be sent by January 25, 2021 via MSGAPP Committee Membership Nominations. Questions regarding the Director search should be directed to Daniela Trapani.

Data Privacy Day

On January 28, 2021, countries around the world will celebrate Data Privacy Day to highlight the impact technology is having on our privacy rights and the importance of protecting personal information. This year, Information Technology Services’ (ITS) Information Security department is raising awareness for the University community through resource sharing and a virtual webinar panel, featuring a variety of subject experts who will share their perspectives on why and how to best protect our personal information.

Director Search for the Human Biology Program — Committee Membership Nominations

The Faculty of Arts & Science is now accepting nominations for individuals to serve on the search committee for the new Director of the Human Biology Program. Nominations for the committee should be sent by February 1, 2021 via HMB — Committee Membership Nominations. Questions regarding the Director search should be directed to Svetlana Braienko.

Chair Search for the Department of English — Committee Membership and Call for Nominations

An Advisory Search Committee has been appointed to recommend a Chair of the Department of English. The input of faculty, staff and students is critical for the success of the selection process. Nominations for the Chair should be sent by February 1, 2021 via ENG Chair Search Nominations. Questions regarding the Chair search should be directed to Daniela Trapani.

Mitacs Accelerate Internship Opportunities

The Mitacs Accelerate Program promotes collaboration between industry and not-for-profit partners and universities, and involves internships for students and postdoctoral fellows. Under this program, some industry and not-for-profit partners submit project ideas directly to Mitacs, seeking collaboration with interested researchers.

Interested faculty members and trainees are encouraged to consult our curated list of current Accelerate opportunities that broadly fit the research interests of A&S faculty members. Note, the list also indicates opportunities that are eligible for SOSCIP support, i.e. access to the SOSCIP Advanced Computing Platforms. View the complete list of Accelerate Opportunities.
