Appointment of Interim Chair and Interim Graduate Chair Department of English

We are pleased to announce that Professor Thomas Keymer has been appointed for a six-month period as Interim Chair and Interim Graduate Chair of the Department of English effective July 1, 2021.

What the Numbers Say: How Can We Get to a Safer Summer?

Hear directly about the modelling and advisory process from Ontario scientists, and what each of us can do to save our summer. In this Fields Institute virtual event, U of T faculty members, and members of Ontario's Science Advisory Table, Professor Peter Jüni, Assistant Professor Samira Mubareka and Professor V. Kumar Murty, will answer questions and discuss what we can do to get the current outbreak under control.

Register for IT @ U of T 2021

Formerly known as TechKnowFile, the IT @ U of T 2021 conference is virtual two-day conference takes place May 5 and 6. This provides a platform for people to share ideas, discuss trends and network with colleagues across the tri-campus community. Hosted by Information Technology Services, this event is open to University of Toronto faculty and staff. Register before the April 23 deadline.

Practical Strategies for Teaching Online in Summer 2021

Instructors teaching in Summer 2021 are invited to join the Online Learning Academy for a session informed by our experiences teaching and supporting instructors over the past year. This session is framed around key elements of online course design: calibrating expectations, fostering community and collaboration and developing assessments. Facilitators will discuss strategies for structuring an effective online course, choosing appropriate educational technology tools, and integrating important A&S policies related to teaching. Register now. A Zoom link will be sent to all registered participants.

Early Researcher Award (ERA) Round 16

The A&S Research Services Office is offering proposal development and editorial reviews for Early Career Researchers applying to the ERA Round 16. Please contact Monica Caverson (science/math/computer science units) or Suzanne Jaeger (social science & humanities units) for application support. Read about the application details and deadlines, and attend an upcoming information session. The next session is April 30, 1–2pm. Pre-registration required.

A&S Outstanding Achievement Awards

Dean Melanie Woodin will host this virtual celebration to honour excellence in teaching and administrative service within the Faculty of Arts & Science. View a list of the honourees. Please register by May 3, 2021. The event link will be sent to you after registration. For further information, please email spo.artsci@utoronto.ca.

COVID-19 Vaccine Appointments

The University of Toronto encourages all eligible employees to get a COVID-19 vaccine. All employees will be granted approval to take time away from work to obtain their vaccination, whether scheduled or at a mobile clinic. Employees whose vaccinations take place during their regular workday or shift will not lose their regular wages, and they will not be required to take vacation, sick, personal, or any other leave.

Course Readings: Syllabus Service for Summer 2021

The Syllabus Service assists faculty and staff at the University of Toronto in making course readings available to students in a manner that respects Canadian copyright law and existing U of T licensing agreements and policies. Library staff will retrieve, scan, and provide links to material, as well as acquire eBooks suitable for course use whenever available. Instructors are encouraged to submit course reading lists at any time.
