Medicare for All Act of 2021
Indivisible National, our group, and several coalition partners have signed on to this letter in support of the Medicare for All Act of 2021 that will be introduced soon in the US Congress. This bill will be virtually identical to versions introduced in the 116th Congress with minor changes to improve and clarify eligibility and the benefits package, a commitment to health equity, just transition for workers, and long-term services and supports.
All groups are encouraged to sign on to this letter!
Link to read it and sign below. Please share! The deadline is TODAY, March 16.
Do you get frustrated when you see lies and misinformation on social media? Then join Indivisible in the fight against big lies with the Truth Brigade! Instead of responding directly to the source of the disinformation (which just increases the circulation of the original posting), learn how you can spread the truth and shift the narrative by sharing and amplifying unified, factual messages to those who trust us.
Here are the current campaigns:
National Campaign: The People's Stimulus
Democrats in Congress passed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan. Despite its popularity and expected impact, not a single Republican in Congress voted for it. Instead, Republicans and the right are pushing misleading statements that $1400 stimulus checks will go to criminals, undocumented immigrants, special interests… and even “the Boston bomber.”Read more HERE. This is a sample message, feel free to post it or customize it:
The Democratic stimulus is a BIG DEM DEAL that saves lives. R's all voted against it & some are already lying about what’s in it! Did you know that it will cut poverty by one-third?! That’s life-changing! #TruthBrigade #AmericanRescuePlan https://r29.co/38peLpZ
State Campaign: COVID Vaccination
Let's debunk the fears and lies about COVID vaccination and share the truth. Read more HERE. This is a sample message, feel free to post it or customize it:
We wanted to believe it was no big deal. Some people are still claiming that we don't need to wear masks and that the COVID vaccine isn't safe. Not true and the sooner we're all vaccinated, the sooner we're back to normal. #TruthBrigadeIllinois https://www.bbc.com/news/54893437
IL has 59 state senators. 26 were appointed rather than elected?
IL has 118 reps. 7 won seats by winning a primary against an incumbent?
We all know Illinois needs anti-corruption laws, aka ethics reform! There are many organizations out there trying to make it so, including Reform For Illinois. Bill SB0663has been introduced in the Illinois legislature, but this is NOT the bill the experts tell us we need.
Call your State Senator and Representative to NOT vote on this and let them know we want a better bill!
Then read the great article below from Alisa Kaplan, executive director of Reform For Illinois - "If we’re serious about fixing the corruption problem in Illinois, we have to go to its root — the money that feeds it."
Indivisible National has been working on a special project for a few weeks - a Midwest Democracy Reform series! We'll hear from guest speakers, musicians, and then write Letters to the Editor together so we can get media attention about why we need to act with urgency and get our democracy back on track.
S. 1 (For the People Act) passed in the House and is in the Senate now to expand Americans' access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy, and much more.

D.C. has a population of almost 700,000 (more than Wyoming or Vermont), and it represents an increasingly diversifying electorate nationwide (if D.C. were a state, it’d be the only majority-minority state in the country). None of those people have voting representation in the House or Senate. The way the Senate was designed caters to the shrinking conservative base, and it’s time to expand representation to reflect the true needs of the people.
With rampant voter suppression targeting voters of color, immigrants, and poor communities across the country, enshrining and expanding the right to participate in our democracy has become more and more urgent. Congress must pass H.R. 4 (the John Lewis Voting Rights Act).
Eliminating the filibuster, a relic of the Jim Crow era that’s been used for decades to slow progress and prevent racial justice initiatives and other progressive priorities. With the filibuster in his pocket, Mitch McConnell can run the show even when his party is in the minority. We have to prove him wrong.
Every single issue we care about comes down to the courts. Republicans understand how important the courts are for protecting conservative interests, and also how important they can be in blocking progress.
To unrig our courts, we need to pass bold, structural reform in these four areas: Supreme Court expansion, expansion of the lower federal courts, term limits for Supreme Court justices, and improved ethics and transparency requirements
