There seemed to be more hope in the air, and more spring in the step, as 2020 turned into 2021 on New Year's Day. At ACS, we started the year on a positive note as our new CEO, Jaclyn Jhin, joined us.

With continuing social distancing restrictions, and "ambush lockdowns" now a thing in Hong Kong, though, it is clear that circumstances are not going back to pre-Covid "normal" anytime soon, just because 2020 is behind us. And, with the gap between the haves and the have-nots in Hong Kong now (sadly) the widest in the world, it is equally clear that our work, and that of our fellow nonprofits, remains more important and more needed than ever before.

We are thankful for the time and work of committed volunteers which enable us to continue offering these programs pro bono to our peer organisations. These volunteers have also enabled us to proudly show a slick, streamlined ACS logo, a newly revamped website, and an improved Community Support Platform.

We are grateful to have such support for our role in the sector as a Community Connector. A bulk donation of 40,000 masks, provided by an anonymous donor, and collected by our partner organisation Feeding HK, will benefit many needy beneficiaries during the Chinese New Year holiday period.

On the capacity building front, we wasted no time in running our first program for the year on Jan 28, with an IGNITE Next Generation online seminar (still on Zoom) on the topic which is on every nonprofit's mind: Smart Fundraising - What Do Funders Want?

Our JC Engage workshops focused on digital upskilling concluded its successful first series in December, and will roll out its second series later this year. Do check out our event calendar for other programs coming up.

It does not promise to be smooth sailing through 2021 but we have seen in the darkest moments of last year how the sector was that much stronger by working together and collaboratively. We look forward to working with all of you to build back much much better.

Have a very Happy & Healthy Year of the Ox.

Community Outreach
We are off to a great start in 2021!

In addition to meeting with our peers who had indicated an interest to have an Outreach meeting with us, we are also introducing a “sector focus” approach to some of our meetings.Through reaching out to NGOs in a particular sector, we hope to identify more insights and trends to serve that sector even better. We are starting with NGOs who are focused on providing education services to their beneficiaries. So far, we have met with 4 NGOs in this sector. Stay tuned for more updates in our next newsletter.
Feature Story - Kindness Walks: Walking the talk
Jeff Rotmeyer, the founder of ImpactHK, which is a non-profit that provides the homeless in Hong Kong with friendship, food, shelter, education and employment opportunities, has the attention of the media.  And rightfully so. The passion project he started in 2017 to aid the plight of Hong Kong’s homeless has grown from strength to strength. Read the full story here
ACS Community Support Platform
Our online Community Support Platform now serves 80 of our peers and has facilitated many connections with skilled volunteers and donors. Just this week, we were able to connect an extremely generous donation of 40,000 masks with small and medium-sized organisations serving asylum seekers, refugees, migrant workers, and the homeless, all of whom, of course, continue to have an urgent need for such protective equipment.

Since our last newsletter, we have welcomed the following organisations onto the Platform:
  • Sailability HK
  • St. Barnabas' Society and Home
  • YWAM Tuen Mun
  • Sowers Action
  • New Sight Eye Care Limited
If you are a For Impact Organisation which would like to be profiled on the Community Support Platform, please complete this Questionnaire, and we will soon be in touch.

If you are a Volunteer or a potential resource partner who can help, or engage with, any of the organisations which are profiled on the Platform, please do get in touch with the organisations directly, or complete an online Get Connected card via the Platform.  We will connect with you soon after.
We look forward to hearing from you, and to working with you!
