St. Paul DSI Proposing Changes for Class N Licensing Process

The Department of Safety and Inspections (DSI) is proposing changes to Class N Licensing in St. Paul. Class N Licenses are most commonly associated with Liquor sales and Auto Repair, but cover a variety of other businesses as well.

The changes are intended to simplify and streamline the process for new businesses while still giving time for community notification and engagement. This includes shortening the process time after applications are submitted, but requiring notification to District Councils prior to submitting the application. Certain license types are also being removed from the notification process. You can read more about the proposed changes and Business Licensing in the links below

    Recycle Smart

Recycling has been in the news a lot lately due to shifts in markets and international policy changes. This has left many Minnesotans wondering what is happening to the recycling placed in their carts, and what they can do now to support recycling. In Saint Paul, 100% of residential materials are marketed in North America with 85% of recyclable materials marketed in Minnesota. Even with local and regional markets, the quality control and demand for clean material is ever increasing. It is important now, more than ever, to know what can be recycled and keep problem materials out of your cart.

With support from Ramsey County, Saint Paul is running the Recycle Smart campaign to raise awareness about the importance of recycling the right things. The campaign will focus on important items to keep out of your recycling cart, such as plastic bags, large plastic items, and random metal items. Look for the campaign on Metro Transit ads, social media, and other media outlets. Learn more here throughout the campaign.

Federal food benefit for children 5 or under

Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) for 5 and Younger is a temporary food benefit available to Minnesota families with children who were age 5 or younger on Sept. 1, 2021, and who received Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) or Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (Tribal TANF) assistance. It is a federal program created to provide food assistance to families with students or children in child care facilities who did not receive meals when sites were closed or had reduced hours due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a community, we’re growing. Our needs and interests continue to change. As a city, we’ve made commitments to make our parks even more inclusive for residents in regards to race, ethnicity, gender, age and neighborhood. An updated Parks System Plan will give us an important tool to continue making investments in buildings, open spaces and programming. Take the Parks System Plan Survey to share your thoughts!

Parks will be holding public meetings, in person and virtually, to gather more input toward the end of the summer and early fall. A draft Parks System Plan will be shared later this year, for expected adoption in early 2023.
