THANK YOU TO OUR EDUCATORS FOR A SUCCESSFUL LEARNING IMPROVEMENT GRANT SHOWCASE!

Many thanks to the Educators of North Thurston Public Schools and to Clair Ferris for the photographs of our Learning Improvement Grant Showcase, which took place on January 29!

The event included not only a grant showcase but also information on the grant process itself. The exhibition highlighted the critical work NTEF does for our district - including Learning Improvement Grants, Student Assistance Grants, as well as the support of the McKinney Vento program and scholarships for graduating seniors.

Learning Improvement Grant Funds help teachers increase student learning tied to district and state learning goals. You have three opportunities a year to apply for grants, October 1December 1, and March 1.

BOARD MEMBER PROFILE - JANEY HOWELL
Academy Mortgage Corporation  | Loan Officer  |  NMLS # 413650

1). How did you first get involved in NTEF?

Blake Knoblauch (NTEF Board President) is a longtime friend of mine. When he got involved in the Foundation, he invited me to come to a board meeting to see if I would be interested in joining. After learning more about the Foundation and what they stand for, I became a member in August of 2017.

2). What do you enjoy doing in your spare time (hobbies, etc.)?

I enjoy spending time with friends, traveling, cooking, working out and a little golf. I also have a wonderful daughter, son-in-law, and two grandbabies that I love and make time to see as often as possible.

3.) How do you believe the community can best support the work of NTEF?

By donating! We want to keep serving the homeless students in the district. Awareness! We need to continually talk about the Foundation. The more people who are aware of what we do for the students and the programs we fund, such as the Learning Improvement Grants and the scholarships, the more support we will receive from our community!

Thank you so much, Janey, for your dedication and commitment to students of North Thurston Public Schools!

HOW TO HELP
2020 NTEF SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN UNTIL APRIL 17!

The North Thurston Education Foundation offers scholarships to graduating seniors to assist in financing their post-high school education.

Scholarships are awarded for those who will be attending community colleges, vocational or technical schools or colleges or universities. In addition to graduating from a North Thurston Public School, applicants must have demonstrated:

(1) The skills necessary to succeed in their chosen post-secondary school.
(2) Good citizenship and leadership qualities.
(3) A need for financial assistance to meet their educational goals.

Foundation scholarships vary in amounts awarded but the total value of each scholarship is no less than $2,000. Most scholarships are one-year grants, but some are renewable for either two or four years based on the recipient’s academic progress.

NTEF awarded 38 new and 13 renewable scholarships in 2019 valued at $135,000!
Due Date:
Completed applications are to be submitted to the high school counseling or career centers or mailed to NTEF by April 17, 2020.

If you are interested in establishing a named scholarship, call our Executive Director, Michael Jones at 360-790-6548 or e-mail mikej@ntef.org.

SPONSOR A SENIOR THIS SPRING!
DID YOU KNOW…Kids that don’t graduate from high school are 347 times more likely to become homeless and eight times more likely to go to prison? Currently, North Thurston Public Schools has 1,237 seniors, and of those, 400 are on the Free or Reduced Lunch Program, and 87 are homeless…and these numbers typically go up as the school year progresses.

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Your $150 donation sponsors one senior, or choose to donate a smaller amount for a necessary graduation item for a Senior.
