STATEMENT: WRMC Calls for Action in Ukraine

Russian violations of international humanitarian law and human rights in Ukraine are causing the worst refugee crisis in modern European history. 

The WRMC has issued a call for action in Ukraine for the international community to:

  • Adhere to humanitarian principles

  • Deploy UN Peacekeepers to safeguard humanitarian corridors

  • Repurpose frozen assets to help Ukrainians through a global trust fund

  • Support responsibility sharing principles of the UN Refugee Compact

  • Hold a global conference & action plan on food and health safety


Join the WRMC and the Metropolis Institute, along with members of the North and Central American Task Force on Migration March 23 to hear from experts and practitioners about the key pillars for an Americas conversation about migration.  Register 


On March 30 and 31, 2022, Canada will host the Together for Learning Summit: Engaging Displaced Youth to Transform Education. The Summit, which will include WRMC Chair Lloyd Axworthy, will offer a unique opportunity to learn from the educational experiences of displaced youth and to engage with them as problem solvers and decision makers.  Register 


In response to Russian aggression in Ukraine, the WRMC has called on the Government of Canada to make exceptional commitments to support Ukrainian refugees and lead international efforts toward ensuring responsibility sharing efforts.  Read 


The Task Force has published interim reports and recommendations as well as research papers from Central American, Mexican and other experts, addressing humanitarian protection, regional cooperation, drivers of migration, and strengthening regular pathways for migration.  Read 


The World Refugee & Migration Council is conducting a survey on the current state of the global refugee system and how it has changed since we published A Call to Action: Transforming the Global Refugee System in 2019. Your input will help us to review and focus collaborative efforts to implement the recommendations in A Call to Action.
