February 2020 Newsletter

A Letter from your 2nd Vice Regent:

How is it already February 7th?? I guess time got away from me this month. I'm writing this letter as I look out my front window to a blanket of snow. Really - I can't even see my neighbor's house! Winter in Vermont really is a trip.
Speaking of Vermont, our Member Spotlight this month is Barbara Thoren, a native of the Green Mountain State now living in sunny Florida! I had the true pleasure of chatting with her via email and really got a kick out of the photo she sent of her and Andy.
February means just one more month until our winter hiatus ends. HHC activities pick up again in March, beginning with the Benefactor Birthday Commemoration on March 3rd. But, as we are still in February, I'll try to list a few community events, below.
I hope all of our members are able to have a very sweet Valentine's Day! If you're in Hudson, treat yourself to some Vaselow's - you deserve it!

Member Spotlight:

Meet Barbara Thoren

I grew up in Montpelier VT, but both sets of grandparents lived in East Schodack NY so I spent many weekends and summers in Rensselaer and Columbia counties. So the area is special to me now.  Fond memories of picking apples and berries. Swimming holes.  I have spent many years researching my ancestry and found that I am descended from some of the first European settlers in the Hudson valley.  I have lived in Vero Beach Florida for 35 years.  Unfortunately don't have the chance to spend much time anymore in the Hudson valley area.  Just a week or two every few years basically doing family research.

News & Notes

There is what looks like a really neat presentation called Animals Under the Snow at Mud Creek on Feb. 16! It's all about how animals survive the winter. I found the info on the Columbia County  Tourism Website. Click on the chipmunk above for more information!
Pilot and Charlie really wish we lived in Columbia County for this one --Leapin' Line Dancing at the Hudson Area Library! This looks like so much fun. February 29 for free. I say a group of DAR Ladies takes part and then becomes the entertainment act for the Flag Day Luncheon? Click the picture above to learn more!
