March 2020 Newsletter

A Letter from your 2nd Vice Regent:

And just like that, it's spring!
It's been beautiful here in sunny Vermont. With my birthday at the beginning of the month I knew this month's newsletter would be a bit late -- but I didn't mean for it to be this late! Sorry about that...
Anywho, it's March! Which means the HHC DAR is back and ready for business! Our first meeting of the calendar year will be March 23 - check out the blurb below for more info! Unfortunately I wont be able to make it down this time around. But I'll be there in April for sure!
Now, I'm so excited to introduce another member to you this month: President General Denise VanBuren! Denise is an associate member of the HHC. I think it's really important to be introduced to our associate members, as they add a little something extra to the landscape of our chapter. Now, I will say that I cut the bio a bit short, as our President General has quite the list of accomplishments. But you can read the whole thing on National's website - just click here
Have a great start to your spring and I'll catch you next month!

-Katie West, 2nd Vice Regent

Member Spotlight:

Meet Denise VanBuren

Denise joined Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation in 1993, was its 2005 Executive of the Year and currently serves as Vice President of Public Relations. She became an Officer of the Corporation in 1999, and is the longest-serving female officer in the utility’s 165-year history. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a Master’s in Business Administration. A former radio and television news anchor, she is the mother of three sons, Schuyler, Troy and Brett, past members of the Highland Pass Society C.A.R. She is married to Christopher G. Barclay. They live in an 1840 farmhouse near the Hudson River in Chelsea, NY, and are currently restoring an 1876 cottage in the Adirondacks.

When asked why she chose to be an associate member of the HHC, she stated that "I  am an associate of HH because my original Patriot ancestors — father and son Jacob and Marcus Plattner — were from Clavarack." How neat!

News & Notes

We're back! Our first meeting of the new year will be at the Robert Jenkins House, Monday March 23, 1PM. The program will be called "The Women of Schuyler Mansion," and presented by Heidi Hill, site manager of Crailo and Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site.
