Dear Parents and Guardians,

This morning we practiced our semester Lockdown training with the Temple Police Department. Our students took the drill very seriously and were complimented by the officers.

Each year we send out a short survey to our families asking for feedback on our strengths and weaknesses. We use this information to not only recognize what we are doing right but also to learn and improve what we bring to our community. Please take a few minutes and complete the survey found at this link CLICK HERE. We would really appreciate your time.

Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday. Our students will be attending the 8:15 Mass. Students will not attend Mass on Thursday.

This is our final week of NWEA testing. Test results will be sent home before Spring Break. I am pleased with the growth I have seen thus far. Teachers will utilize test results to plan lessons for their students. These results will be shared with our resources teachers as well.

We are tracking the weather for Wednesday and Thursday and will let you know through Remind and email if our school days will be affected in any way.

This weekend we will be sharing the good news at all Masses at St. Luke Parish and holding our Open House on Sunday from 10:00-1:00. Please come and join us for Mass and Open House.

Please remember that sweats, leggings and jeans with holes are not appropriate dress on Spirit days.

Have a great week.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Wyles

PSIA News

As you know, this year we are hosting PSIA at St. Mary’s. We have been traveling to Seguin to compete for many years but St. James Catholic School has chosen to no longer host the tournament. As a new district, we have only four schools, including ourselves, competing. Now that all schools have entered their contestant’s names, we can see how many are entered and in which events.

With this knowledge we realize that there are some events in which only one of two students are entered. (this includes all schools) First and foremost competing in PSIA is a wonderful learning experience for our students and as a new district we know that we will grow each year. However, no one can qualify for the State tournament unless at least three students are entered in an event. If three students are entered one student may advance to state. If four students are entered, two students may advance to State.

Therefore, in consultation with the PSIA district advisors, we will open selected events for students to join with a deadline of March 2nd. We still have six weeks until the contest so there is time for coaching and learning. At the end of the week we will evaluate our numbers and possibly combine some grade levels to help advance students to State.

Thank you to all those who have been participating in our World's Finest Chocolate Fundraiser, but we still have plenty of chocolate left.
For every box of chocolate sold, your name will be entered into a drawing to win one of three holiday themed raffle baskets!

Themes will include:

  • Mardi Gras Basket
  • Easter Basket
  • Summertime Basket
The first drawing will be for the Mardi Gras Basket on Fat Tuesday, March 1st!

This fundraiser is not mandatory but a great way to help support the school. All proceeds from the sale go to our general operating fund. This is also one of two major fundraisers to help those who received tuition assistance fulfill their obligation of helping refill that fund.

Save these Dates and Help us Spread the Good News at all Masses

We know that word of mouth is the best advertiser there is. So as we begin 2022, we will be spreading the good news of St. Mary’s to families who are seeking quality Catholic Education in the Classical Tradition. We ask for your help.

Father Kurtis will be sharing the good news of St. Mary’s to the parishioners of our neighboring parishes. He is asking, as are we, for help from our parents, faculty and staff, grandparents and students to help him share this good news.

  • February 26th and 27th at St. Luke Church in Temple

Please let Ms. Giannotti  know where/when you can help (mgiannotti@stmarys-temple.org). It is very important that we share with others the opportunity to join our family.

Fat Tuesday Bake Sale
The SMCS Drama department will be selling baked goods during both lunches on Tuesday, March 1st. All items will be .50 to 1.00 with all proceeds going to the Drama department to fix up the SMCS School Auditorium.

Classroom Spotlight: This week is 5th Grade

5th grade students Emily and Ember did a presentation for the class on holiness and the Saints of the Catholic Church. They focused on St. Francis of Assisi, St. John the Baptist, and St. Therese the Little Flower. Each student then shared who their favorite Saint is and discussed how we can all be Saints too.
