North Texas Giving Day This Week!

This year, on Thursday, September 19, 2019, SEM PTSA is participating in Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day, a one-day online giving extravaganza for our whole region. Last year, Communities Foundation of Texas brought together 2,700 organizations to raise $48 million, and we are excited to be a part of the movement this year! Since its founding in 2009, North Texas Giving Day has inspired people to get up and give, resulting in increased donations and services provided in North Texas.

We invite you to join the movement and help us reach our goal of $15,000 on September 19. Here’s how you can help:

1. Get up and give on September 19!

Your gift matters! On September 19, if you donate to SEM PTSA   (https://www.northtexasgivingday.org/semagnet) between 6am and midnight, your dollar will be stretched with bonus funds and prizes raised by Communities Foundation of Texas!

Not available on September 19? No worries! Schedule your donation, between September 9 and September 18 and make your gift count!  If you can’t give online, PTSA will be collecting donations by check or cash the morning of September 19th, from 8:30-9:15!

2. Spread the word!

Spread the word to your friends and loved ones about SEM PTSA and North Texas Giving Day! Don’t forget to tag SEM PTSA and #NTxGivingDay if you’re posting online! Encourage your friends and family to get up and give as well! Communities Foundation of Texas is even offering a prize for the social media post that’s shared the most!

Join PTSA!

Please join us in the PTSA!

Here are some benefits from joining the PTSA:

  • Weekly informative newsletter
  • Support for PTSA Activities
  • Making a difference for students

JOINING PTA DOES NOT COMMIT YOU TO DO ANYTHING.

It simply makes you a child advocate.

You do NOT have to volunteer. You do NOT have to go to PTA meetings.
Although you are very welcome to do both!

10 MYTHS ABOUT JOINING THE PTSA:

Myth #1
IF I JOIN THE PTSA, I WILL HAVE TO VOLUNTEER.

--->FALSE! Every person has a different capacity to give and be involved. And your capacity to volunteer will change from one year to the next. Your decision to purchase a PTSA membership (and stay current on what is happening with kids in our area) is significant all by itself.

Myth #2
I WILL HAVE TO TAKE A BOARD POSITION— OR LEAD A COMMITTEE— IF I JOIN THE PTSA.

--->NOPE! Some of our most valued PTSA friends have never held an elected (or appointed) position. You do not have to be a leader to be an important part of PTSA. Your membership support it critical to our success too!

Myth #3
MY PTSA MEMBERSHIP NEVER EXPIRES. I ONLY HAVE TO JOIN ONCE.

--->PTSA memberships are an annual thing— good for one school year. Memberships need to be renewed each year. If you choose to enroll online, your username and password will make it a snap to login and re-enroll each year.

Myth #4
THE PTSA ALREADY HAS ALL THE HELP THEY NEED.

--->It's probably no surprise that the more volunteers SEM has, the better. More volunteers
means less work for each person — which means everyone has more time to enjoy events with their families!

Myth #5
I DON’T HAVE THE TIME TO JOIN THE PTSA.

--->If you are unable to give your time, please consider offering financial support. Joining—and donating if you are able— helps fund events and activities for the children through the school year!

Myth #6
THE SEM PTSA DOESN'T NEED ME SPECIFICALLY.

--> You have gifts and abilities that are entirely yours to give. When you give yourself to the people around you, all of us become richer for it! The first step is to show up and be willing to engage.

Myth #7
THE PTSA IS ONLY FOR STAY-AT-HOME PARENTS.

--> Our PTSA is made up of men and women who have a wide range of daily commitments. Some work 60 hours a week, some are retired. But most juggle work, bills, household chores, kids, sports, and homework, just like you!

Myth #8
MY CHILD’S LIFE WILL BE THE SAME —WHETHER OR NOT I JOIN THE PTSA.

---> UNTRUE. For at least 2 reasons.

1— If everyone felt this way, all the wonderful activities and supports your child enjoys because of PTSA would suddenly vanish! and

2— Research shows that parental involvement within the child’s school increases their academic achievements and decreases behavior issues. Not only does membership put you in direct communication with other parents and teachers, it shows your child that you are interested and invested in their educational experience.

Myth #9
ONLY MOMS & TEACHERS BELONG TO OUR PTSA.

--->NOT THE CASE! Moms, teachers and school staff DO naturally form the backbone of any PTSA— BUT the strongest groups ALSO have many grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors and community leaders who are invested in the youngest members of society.

Myth #10
I HAVE AN AWESOME IDEA, BUT THE SEM PTSA WOULDN'T BE INTERESTED.

--> Nothing could be further from the truth!
New ideas, and new
friends keep our PTSA fresh and exciting!

For all our returning parents, please do not forget to renew your membership for 2019-2020 school year!
