Like most events during the pandemic, our District Winter Leadership Training Events will look a little different for 2021. Rather than hosting in-person events in each district, we will offer a series of Conference-wide training webinars during the week of January 10-14 to resource and equip all areas of your Church leadership.

Jason Moore of Midnight Oil Productions will lead the keynote webinar to launch the series on “Telling the Old Story in a New Time.” Other topics will include: Financial Faithfulness in Uncertain Times, The Ministry of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee, Evangelism During A Pandemic, Leadership During a Pandemic for Church Councils, Racial Equity and Justice, Courageous Conversations, and much more.

For more information on webinars and to register click the button below.
Church Council will meet via Zoom on Sunday, Jan 10 at 6pm. Council members can click Zoom icon to access meeting.

Special Sundays are designated Sundays throughout the year that provide opportunities for giving. These special offerings are earmarked and support designated ministries.

On these Sundays, we empower our congregations to give toward causes and organizations that promote sustainable life change. On Sunday, January 17 we will observe Human Relations Day.

The United Methodist Church celebrates Human Relations Day to further the development of better human relations by involving congregations in community and youth outreach through Community Developers Programs, United Methodist Voluntary Services Programs, and Youth Offender Rehabilitation Programs. It is celebrated on the Sunday before the observance of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday.

Once you've been re-directed to online giving, scroll down to "Miscellaneous Offerings," enter your amount and designate "Special Sunday Human Relations Day"

Help us spread smiles just to make someone's day a little brighter. Smile Project is a way for families to make and send greeting cards to folks who need a little reminder that they're loved. Just drop by and pick up a greeting card kit that includes a stamped - addressed envelope and decorations. Take the kits home, get creative, drop them in the mail and let the smiles begin!  Card kits will be available for drive through pick-up on Sunday, Jan 17 from 9:30am-9:55am and 11am-11:30am. Mrs. Teresa will be in the front parking lot with as many kits as you'd like. We currently have a list of 35 folks who will receive cards - if you know of others we could add to our Smile Project list let Mrs. Teresa know.
January's Messy Church is Sunday, January 24; "Fearfully and Wonderfully Made" (inspired by Psalm 139). This month, in an effort to reach out to more families, we'll be handing out Messy Church event packets. Rather than having an on-site gathering - we'll be encouraging families to set aside time during the week to work on the activities together.

Swing by on Sunday, January 24 between 11:15am - noon to pick up your packet. Help us with a head count by signing up your family!

The Flock Preschool is preparing for the 2021-22 school year. Enrollment for current students is in progress - registration for new students open February 1.

For more information or to schedule a tour, contact Teresa Gray, Director - Flock Preschool via email at: or 704.230.3811. Please be sure to promote our wonderful preschool and dedicated staff. God is doing amazing things at Epworth UMC.

With fingers crossed, we have scheduled a week for day camp at Mount Shepherd - June 14-18. As long as everything is safe by June, we'll move forward with our planning. This week is for students K-6th grade (we've added 6th graders for those who missed out last summer). Day campers will meet at Epworth daily at 7am, head to Mount Shepherd on the church bus and return by 4pm each afternoon.

Cost for the is $150 and includes all meals. Donations to cover fuel costs are much-appreciated.

Shop & Share Update
Scott Randolph

Shop & Share is still going strong.  Please know that your support of the food pantry is GREATLY appreciated by those who use it. I have been told multiple times “God Bless” Epworth for doing this. On a normal week I'll spend $50-$75 for essentials in addition to what people donate. Usage has increased over the past several weeks and I'm spending $125-$150 a week - so the need is still very much out there.
If I am around the pantry when someone comes to use it I try to talk to them and thank them for using it.  Everyone says thank you. I try to ask if they have looked into resources such as CCM for help and the answer I have been getting back has been surprising.  What I’m being told is they are not aware of other resources because “We have never needed help before and don’t know what to do!"  I have gotten CCM info fliers and put them in the cabinet to let people know of this resource.
A big THANK-YOU to Epworth Hot Dogs for supplying snacks for the pantry, they are greatly appreciated. Thanks to Carolyn and Wayne for doing the shopping for this and always asking if the pantry needs anything.
This is my typical shopping list for a week, for canned items I usually get at least 12 of each item:

Items like snacks (all kinds, sweet, salty, big & small), paper products (toilet paper & paper towels, tissues), personal care items (soap, toothpaste) and household (dish washing liquid, laundry soap, wipes) are items we always need but I don't typically buy on a weekly basis - so those things are always appreciated and they go fast.
I try to check the shelves in the morning & evening. There are very few times I check that I’m not re-stocking a least a few items. Your little food pantry has easily passed  several tons of food across it.  Your support is why it continues and your future support is greatly needed.
Support by food or financial donations are greatly appreciated. I would also ask you to remember this ministry in your prayers not so much for its donations but for those that are lead to use it.

This is my typical shopping list for a week, for canned items I usually get at least 12 of each item:

Our current big needs are:
  • Cereal
  • Canned carrots, peas, potatoes and mixed veggies
  • Soup
  • Canned fruit
  • Baked Beans (Pork & Beans)
  • Other canned beans except for Pinto (black, kidney, chili, etc.)
  • Any dried beans
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Peanut Butter
As always, we especially seek low sodium items,
no-added-sugar items, and whole  grain items.

Thank you for the continued support from our church partners.  Our Crisis Center at 246 Country Club Drive NE in Concord serves as the warehouse for most of the food.  We will gladly accept all donations at that site from 10 am to 1 pm Monday through Friday.  Bethel Baptist Helping Hands Food Pantry, located at 1209 1/4 Opal Street in Kannapolis, will gladly accept donations from 9 am to 1 pm on Monday and Thursday.  The food pantry located at Westford UMC on Highway 49 and the Kannapolis Food Pantry at West Point Baptist Church can accept donations on Saturday morning from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. .  The Feeding Our Souls Food Pantry at Bethel UMC in Midland, North Kannapolis Baptist Church Food Pantry and the New Life Baptist Food Pantry will accept donations by calling the church in advance.

You can give to a specific ministry or direct your gifts to be
used where they are most-needed.
Set up automatic giving or opt for a one-time gift.
Thank you for your financial support of Epworth's ministries.
We want to express our ongoing appreciation and thanks to all who pray faithfully over these needs each week. It’s obvious our prayers are working when we are able to remove individual names from the list when their health situation has improved. We also would like to request of our Epworth faithful members, when you add a name to our list, please be certain to update
Sis Mills when they are better so that we can continue to maintain our list with current prayer needs. Thank you everyone for your contributions to the success of our prayer ministry.
