Summer Fruit'n'Veg is upon us! 🍒🍒

According to our Melbourne Food Hub farmers, we are slowly emerging from “the hungry season” - the time between planting and harvesting food. In the coming weeks, they are expecting an abundance of new seasonal produce such as berries, cherries, rhubarb, tomatoes, apricots, and more!

Currently, blackberries & strawberries are in season...click on the links if you'd like to add a punnet to your next order. Nom, nom, nom!

Cherries will be available from early December. Apricots will be coming our way around mid-December. Keep your eyes peeled!

Local Food Relief
 
Thanks to Sustain-The Australian Food Network we are able to coordinate excess fruit and veggies and divert it to food relief.

Subscribing to the Melbourne Food Hub means you are supporting small to medium-scale regenerative farms as well as helping out local food relief organisations such as DIVRS (pictured), Bridge Darebin & the local community.

If you'd like to help out even further, Bridge Darebin is currently taking non-perishable pantry donations and distributing them to First Nations women and mums doing it tough this year.

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie 🥧

Tis' the season for it, so we thought we'd share a tried and tested recipe with you all!

Ingredients:
440g rhubarb stalks, chopped up
280g sliced strawberries
3/4 cup sugar
4 tablespoons cornflour
1/4 teaspoon salt
Finely grated zest of one orange
Your favourite pie dough - which honestly could be bought puff or shortcrust (Helen from Icecream Social uses Rose Levy Betanbaums flaky pastry recipe, which is worth the effort!)

Method:
Mix rhubarb and strawberry with zest and sugar. Leave to sit at room temp for a few hours until nice and juicy. Mix through cornflour. PUT IT IN A PIE THAT’S IT!!

Sidenote: It’ll take quite some time to cook… you gotta wait until thick juices are bubbling out of the slits in the pie top. Enjoy!
