Parish Leadership

As we enter the third wave of the Called to Renew Campaign, we reflect on what has driven the parishes’ success thus far. Over the past year and a half, hundreds of leaders from across Los Angeles have come forward to volunteer their time and effort.

Leaders at parishes come in many different forms – committee members inviting the support of their peers, advocates speaking on the importance of the Campaign at receptions and at Mass, as well as those who table every Sunday answering questions and distributing materials. Our unprecedented success would not have been possible without the help of these Called to Renew ambassadors.

Called to Renew lends itself to inspire and unite leaders at each parish that will continue to work toward strengthening the community’s faith and building a stronger future. Two members of the St. John Baptist de la Salle Campaign Executive Committee shared their reasons for stepping into a leadership role at their parish. Tom and Ellen Celaya have been members of the parish for 38 years and when the Called to Renew Campaign arrived to St. John Baptist de la Salle, they saw an opportunity to give back to the community that gave them so much when they first arrived.

“I believe in my faith and my Church,” Tom says. “I have received a lot from the Church and Called to Renew is a chance to give back to my parish and the Archdiocese.

“The way I look at it, when we moved to the parish, we were just a young couple just starting our family,” Ellen says. “Older people, like we are now, gave to the parish and helped pave the way for us to be included. So, we figure it’s our turn.”

Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers and pastors for their leadership in this impact driven effort.

Padre Serra in Camarillo reaches $3.5 Million!
Congratulations to Fr. Patrick Mullen and the Campaign Executive Committee (CEC) at Padre Serra for a successful first Commitment Weekend raising $533,151 from 202 gifts. This brings their total raised to $3,501,557 from 440 gifts. The parish has now reached 206% of their original goal of $1.7 million and 135% of their $2.6 million enhanced goal. The community at Padre Serra is excited to use the funds to build a youth and young adult center, as well as a choir room to accommodate their expanding community! A special thank you to the members of the CEC, especially Steve and Kelley Carrigan, the campaign co-chairs, for their enthusiasm, prayers, and indomitability. Well done!
