Generosity and Sacrifice

We would like to acknowledge the generosity and sacrifice of countless parishioners that have promised themselves to the Campaign since its initiation. We have witnessed heartwarming acts that inspire us and serve as models of what it means to give selflessly.

In Wave 1, Fr. Jesus Herrera of Santa Isabel in East Los Angeles received an unexpected gift as a symbol one parishioner’s love and dedication to her faith. Just shy of Commitment Weekend, a woman visited the parish office to see Fr. Jesus. After taking time to catch up, the parishioner mentioned that she had heard about Called to Renew Campaign and that she was interested in giving. She explained that she was saving money and that she wanted to use those savings to make a positive difference in her parish and the lives of other Catholics while she still had time to do so. She provided Fr. Jesus with a small black satchel. As he opened the purse, he noticed that there were bills of all denominations. He was puzzled and asked her about the contents. The parishioner responded that after much consideration and prayer, she was called to donate her savings which totaled $14,000! The legend of this woman’s philanthropy inspired  Fr. Jesus and his community at Santa Isabel.

This story exemplifies the charity of many. Gifts to Called to Renew will leave a lasting impact on generations to come. As you discern your promise to the Campaign, let the generosity of those who came before you guide you to give sacrificially.

"A single act of pure love pleases me more than
a thousand imperfect prayers." - Jesus to Saint Faustina

Our Lady of Guadalupe-Hammel goes over Goal!
On Wednesday night, over 40 parishioners attended the Called to Renew reception held by Fr. Marco T. Solis at Our Lady of Guadalupe-Hammel in Los Angeles (see photo below). At the beginning of the meeting, Fr. Marco announced that the parish had already reached 95% of goal. After a moving testimony by Juan Cisneros, parishioners were empowered to take the parish over goal that very night! Our Lady of Guadalupe has now raised $263,430 or 108% of goal. Congratulations!

Our Lady of Loretto reaches standard goal!

Fr. Anh-Tuan Ngyuen and Office Manager Claudia Morales, have helped Our Lady of Loretto in Los Angeles surpass their Called to Renew goal! The team has raised $350,000, which places them at 115% of their standard goal. They are well on the way to reaching their enhanced goal of $540,000, which will allow them to implement the various projects in their local case. Keep up the good work!

St. Alphonsus climbs to 101% this week!
Congratulations are in order for Fr. Rodolfo Prado and his amazing team of volunteers at St. Alphonsus in Los Angeles. They are working hard to continue to raise funds beyond their goal with a Halloween-themed Campaign reception in the coming weeks. Congratulations on the success!

Sacred Heart raises 101% of goal!
Congratulations to Sacred Heart in Altadena for surpassing its goal of $415,000! Fr. Jose Vaughn Banal has elected to install a new air conditioning system in the Ministry Center as his groundbreaking project. The majority of funds were raised by the Vietnamese community at the parish. We are very grateful for their generous spirit! With 51 families already pledged, Sacred Heart is aiming for 100% participation rate amongst their parishioners. Keep up the great work!

Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Downey reaches assigned goal!
Congratulations to the entire Campaign team at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) in Downey for achieving their assigned goal! OLPH has a standard goal of $1,210,000 but elected to participate in an enhanced Campaign. An enhanced Campaign gives parishes the opportunity to address more transformational projects by allowing them to keep 100% of funds raised above their standard goal. The Campaign team at OLPH, led by pastor Msgr. Lorenzo Miranda, is hard at work to hit their $1,860,000 goal in the coming weeks!

St. Thomas the Apostle brings in $99,000!
Over the past week, Fr. Mario A. Torres and the Campaign team have been busy visiting ministry groups to share the good news of the Called to Renew Campaign at St. Thomas the Apostle. As a result of their hard work, St. Thomas the Apostle raised $99,000 this week!. The ministry groups were thrilled to hear that St. Thomas the Apostle had already surpassed the 50% mark and were inspired to be a part of the efforts to renew their parish. The Campaign team is eager to continue to spread the message of the Campaign with more of the parish community in the coming weeks. Good luck!
