God Equips the Called

This week, we hosted more than 800 volunteers from across the Archdiocese at Kickoff Meetings at American Martyrs in Manhattan Beach and Holy Family in South Pasadena. We want to thank every one of you for accepting your pastor’s invitation to partake in the renewing of our faith across Los Angeles through Called to Renew. Archbishop Gomez has asked us all to respond to the call to rebuild and revitalize not only our parish communities, but the greater Church as well.

The task laid before us is labor intensive and seemingly impossible to many. But throughout our history, God has equipped those who never thought themselves up for the mission He had in store. Moses wanted God to choose his brother Aaron because Aaron was more eloquent, King David committed a terrible crime, Peter and Paul had both failed and even rejected Jesus. But we know that Moses came to deliver his people, David repented, and Peter and Paul were canonized. In their weakness, God’s power was greater.

Let us embrace the Archbishop’s call to renew and invite God to equip our parishes with the faith, charity, and confidence needed for a successful campaign.

More than 400 parishioners and pastors from twelve parishes gathered at Holy Family in South Pasadena on Wednesday evening for the Wave 3 Kickoff.
St. Mary in Los Angeles reaches 25% of goal!
Congratulations to Fr. Rafael Saiz, from St. Mary in Boyle Heights, for reaching 25% of his $260,000 campaign goal! In just one week of fundraising, Fr. Rafael has collected seven gifts totalling $36,000. Members of his Campaign Executive Committee met after the Kickoff this week to discuss the campaign plan and how they can help. The committee was very pleased to hear that Campaign funds will be used to renovate the church roof and upgrade the bathrooms. We look forward to Fr. Rafael’s continued success and are grateful for his dedication to the campaign!

St. Helen kicks off their campaign on the right foot!
Fr. Angel Castro from St. Helen in South Gate wasted no time getting started on the Called to Renew Campaign. In one week Fr. Angel made 18 visits and secured a total of $196,100 towards the parish's $600,000 goal. Fr. Angel’s amazing start has inspired and motivated the Campaign Executive Committee (CEC), which was overjoyed to hear the news at their first meeting Thursday evening. The CEC can’t wait to spread the message of the Campaign and reach their goal.

Our Lady of Sorrows raises $145,000!
Congratulations to Fr. Cesar Magallon and the dedicated parishioners of Our Lady of Sorrows in Santa Barbara for a successful week of campaign activity. Fr. Cesar has spared no time in meeting with his parishioners and inviting them to renew their communities both inside and out. To date, Fr. Cesar has raised 25% of his $585,000 campaign goal!
