New Logo, More Focused Than Ever On Library Services

Let's just start by wishing all of you a low-stress, healthy and joyful 2019!

Knot Notes readers got a sneak peak of our new logo in late 2018, and now you can see it here (above) in all its glory. We worked with the Design Group at studiotrope to come up with this new look and to assist us with our branding. For certain we needed them to create something that incorporated the quipu, for which we are named, and also reflected the modern, technical aspects of our business. These creatives saw the shared purpose of circuit boards and quipus to share information and keep records, and playing with these images, our new logo was born!

We also have a new tagline… Library Focused.  Library Approved. We hope you agree!  Finally, knowing that the Quipu partners are animal lovers, studiotrope found some great new images for us to use to represent each of our products. You don't have to love animals, but if you do, you won't be disappointed. Just throwing you a bone...

New look but same Quipu Group. - Melissa, Robert and Scott

BALANCING COLLECTIONS WHEN YOUR FORMATS ARE PLANTS AND SCULPTURE

This article from the American Alliance of Museums caught our eyes - what if you weren't trying to balance print, digital, CD, audiobook, score, etc... formats, and instead had to decide which botanicals and fine art could stay, and which had to go? This is what the  Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh, PA, recently had to grapple with. This brings a whole new level to the meaning of weeding!

ALA RELEASES NEW RESOURCE FOR HATE CRIMES IN LIBRARIES

During the recent ALA Midwinter Meeting in Seattle, the Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services (ODLOS) and the Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) launched a new  resource, ‘Hateful Conduct in Libraries: Supporting Library Workers and Patrons.’ This document, created collaboratively by the two offices, responds to requests and inquiries by ALA members seeking to address a spike in reported hate crimes in libraries across the United States, which the two offices began tracking in 2016.
