Culture Pass Takes NYC by Storm

Using Quipu’s ePASS Service, Brooklyn Public Library, New York Public Library and Queens Library launched Culture Pass in mid-July, processing over 6,000 museum reservations in the first twenty-four hours. Culture Pass is designed to encourage New Yorkers to take advantage of the city’s cultural bounty. Library cardholders can borrow passes for two or four people at cultural institutions throughout the city, including diverse offerings ranging from the Museum of Modern Art to the Louis Armstrong House to the New York Transit Museum.

The program anticipates providing over 80,000 passes annually at an estimated savings of $3.4 million for patrons who would otherwise have to pay an admission fee. The program has had an additional benefit as well—thousands of New Yorkers signed up for library cards.

“As the most democratic institutions in our society, public libraries provide access to the world’s collective knowledge to people of all ages and backgrounds,” said Linda E. Johnson, President and CEO
of Brooklyn Public Library. “Culture Pass, a clear extension of that mission, gives library patrons access to our city’s world-class museums and cultural institutions. We are excited to work with Quipu to expand audiences and raise awareness about the resources our city now offers everyone.” With the success of Culture Pass, the libraries are now recruiting additional institutions to participate and working with current partners to increase the number of passes available to library cardholders.

With the addition of Culture Pass, ePASS is now in use at over 500 public libraries in the United States. (Yes, we're pinching ourselves!)

Lots of new PITS customers, and we're feeling the love!

Bemis Public Library, Littleton, CO, 1 branch, service area population of 45,000

Nancy Trimm, Adult Services Supervisor, says, "Our staff found the PITS interface easy to learn. Since migrating, we've been able to more consistently track incidents and communicate to our entire staff at once how behavior issues were handled and how incidents were resolved."

High Plains Library District (CO), 13 branches, service area population 250,000

Elena Rosenfeld, Associate Director of Community Engagement, says, "The High Plains Library District is already appreciating their new PITS experience. While they are still exploring the nuances of the system, the ability to match an individual to multiple incidents is already proving to be valuable as patterns of behavior are being noticed.  We are still in the learning period, however, we are already appreciating the reporting feature and the ability to track suspensions."

Houston Public Library (TX), 40+ branches, service area population 2.2 million

Patrick Atkins, LMS Manager, says, "The Patron Incident Tracking System has made it much easier for staff to submit incidents in a consistent manner.  It has also simplified tracking the incidents across the entire library system."
