Year 11 Elevate Evening – Thursday 3rd October 2019

CCF Recruit Training Weekend: Saturday 5th October and Sunday 6th October 2019. 
The Recruit Training Weekend is due to take place at Altcar Training Camp, Hightown (L38 7JE).
This weekend is an opportunity for the new Recruits to get their first taste of basic field craft and sleeping out in improvised shelters which they make themselves. All food for the weekend will be provided in the form of a ration pack provided by the MOD.
RAF Recruits are to meet at the Hightown Hotel, Lower Alt Road, Hightown L38 0BA at 12.30 hours on Saturday 5th October 2019. Pick up from the Hightown Hotel at 3.00 pm hours on Sunday 6th October 2019.
Army Recruits are to meet at the Hightown Hotel (L38 0BA) at 13.00 hours on Saturday 5th October 2019. Pick up from the Hightown Hotel on Sunday 6th October 2019 at 4.00 pm.
The training area to be used for the weekend is a wooded area which should provide cadets with shelter. However, should it be necessary to end the training earlier than planned on the Sunday due to adverse weather conditions, parents will be contacted through the contact numbers provided on the consent forms.

Boys’ Successes

London Institute of Banking and Finance – 4 boys achieved this award which introduces them to personal finance, the economy, enterprise and requires them to demonstrate skills of sound financial management.  Well done to Robin Dong, George Politis, Chris Simpson and Johnson Zhou.

11 boys sat the Certificate in Financial Education exam which introduced them to the impact of finance on the economy and encouraged them to consider the effect of this on businesses and individuals.  All passes were A or B grades.  Well done to Archie Briggs, William Dalton, Tom Gokcen, Robbie Harrocks, George Hopwood, James Keenan, Sean Kelly, Marcus Miller, Tom McGrady, Tom Parsons and Robert Rankin.

French/German Trip to Strasbourg January 2020 – Deadline for Deposit Payment
For boys going on the above trip please note that the deadline for deposits to be paid is this Thursday 10th October (see recent email).

We are pleased to offer a lifetime memory with your son at the inaugural ‘Mother & Son’ Night.  This single evening program is an event we have planned especially for our Year 7 students and their mothers (or female mentors).

Cricket Report
Merchants’ won against Manchester Grammar School in the final of the Lancs Cup held at Firwood Bootle Cricket Club.  The game finished on 98 runs apiece but a quick look at the rule book confirmed we had won due to losing fewer wickets.  A great day and a well-deserved win. The team now go forward to represent Lancashire in the National competition.
Rowing Report
This term has seen the emergence of Merchant Taylors’ School Boat Club (MTSBC), To the delight of existing members and new beginners, Runcorn Autumn Head on Saturday 28th September set the location for the first rowing event since new management has started with the club.

We would like to congratulate everyone who competed and offer special congratulations to William and Samuel who won their race. Merchant Taylors’ Girls’ School’s Mollie and Lucy also received a gold medal.

University of Liverpool - Medicine Taster Day for Year 12
The School of Medicine at the University of Liverpool with be holding a Medicine Taster Day on Wednesday 11th December 2019. The day will include talks on the admissions process, communication skills, a small group tutorial and other relevant sessions.
