Entrance Exam Day is Monday 11th November 2019
The School’s annual entrance examination has been brought forward and will take place on Monday 11 November this year. Unlike in previous years the boys will be engaged in a variety of activities on the day. School buses will run as normal. Departments will provide further details but the activities which we are running are:

Year 7: Geography trip to Liverpool
Year 8: PSHE day in School
Year 9: Chemistry trip to the Catalyst Museum in Widnes
Year 10: Enterprise Day in School
Year 11 to 13:are not required in School but can use the day for their private studies. However, there will be an opportunity for boys who are taking Art, Design, Music and Computer Science to work on their coursework with members of staff from those departments. With the Upper Sixth there will also be an opportunity to work on their UCAS application. We would like a number of Sixth Form to act as helpers and guides for all or part of the day and would welcome their input and support on what is a very important day for the school community.

English Schools Cross Country Cup at Calday Grange on Wednesday 16 October
Two teams of six boys competed, a team of Year 8 in the Junior race and a team of Year 9 and 10 boys in the Intermediate race. The Year 8 team faced tough opposition particularly from St Anslem’s and Calday, with the best performance from Sammy Pickerill who came 15th. Overall the team came 4th with 93 points. In the intermediate race there was a stronger team performance, with Andrew Storch running a superb race, narrowly missing out on winning. There were also good performances from Joe Cosgrove and Harry Clark, who finished 16th and 19th. The overall standing of the team was 4th, just being edged out of third with a total of 54 points.

Well done to all the boys who competed.
Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions over half term
During the first week of half term a three day Silver and a two day Bronze expedition took place in the Clwydian range in North Wales. We were fortunate to have good weather, despite a definite autumnal feel the walking bearable. However, with recent rainfall, conditions underfoot were rather muddy.

Overnight we stopped at Fron Farm, near Mold. The groups arrived in plenty of daylight to pitch tents and cook a welcome meal on the stoves. With the sun setting early it was dark by 6.30pm and the temperatures started to fall under a clear starry sky. Early nights all round to keep warm inside tents meant that we were able to have an early start the following morning. After a clear up all the groups were able to get away and complete the route by early afternoon. Tired and muddy everyone was pleased to have made it through the expedition.

At Bronze level there were 31 boys from Year 10 and 2 boys from Year 11 who successfully completed the qualifying expedition, whilst at Silver there were 5 boys who were successful.

Many thanks to the staff who gave up their time during half term to ensure that the expeditions could go ahead.

Careers at RSM (Accountancy)

There will be networking over drinks and nibbles with some of their current trainees as well as Managers and Directors etc. Students will be able to ask questions about life at RSM and what it is like to work for them and study towards a professional accountancy qualification. They will also have a few short presentations covering the recruitment process and current opportunities, studying and exams, and a current students own experience.
