Update for SA Harness Racing Participants
Wednesday 29th April 2020
Some weeks ago, there was great uncertainty as to whether we would be able to continue to race through Covid-19 pandemic.
However, through strict compliance we have retained the ability to remain racing.
Much of this being premised on industry buy-in, and the goodwill of participants to adhere to the restrictions  imposed. This proving crucial to satisfy both State Government and SAPOL requirements.
Effectively we have, through industry cooperation, been able to fly under the radar.

But this position has now been challenged through some participants entering the racecourse to view races when they have no legitimate reasons for being at the venue. In particular some have chosen
to watch races from Norman’s Gate.

In consequence I have been made aware that both State Government and SAPOL have been informed of this situation and as such this has drawn attention upon us for all the wrong reasons. Both SAPOL
and State Government previously making it very clear that in order to continue to conduct race meetings during this crisis, all venues must be closed venues.
Therefore, the actions of entering the course to watch races at `Norman’s Gate’ contravenes both Government and SAPOL requirements. Consequently, this must cease. Failure to adhere to this requirement puts our on-going ability to race at significant risk.
Finally, on a positive note, thank you to the great majority for assisting the industry during
these unprecedented and most challenging times.
Take care and good luck this coming weekend.

Regards

Ross Neal

Globe Derby Park - Saturday 2nd May 2020
Overview of meeting:

Race 1: TAB PACE
A tricky race to start off a big night of racing.
HOCKYGREG (10) has been racing against some strong competition in recent weeks and has only been getting beaten by small margins. He looks ready to win and he has to be considered despite the second row draw.
BIEN HOA (6) was a big winner last week after facing the breeze to beat IM THE MIGHTY JUDD by a half head. He has the tricky draw to overcome but he has to be considered based off his most recent run.
JUDDY DOUGLAS (3) looks to be returning to his best form after he was only beaten by 5.5 meters behind HESASHARK in the Sires Produce last week. He must be considered.
ILLUSIONATION (4) and BELLA SOFIA (9) are also chances.

Race 2: JOHN ROTHE VIDEO PACE
REGAL SCRIBE (1) brings the best form into the race after securing 2 wins from his last 2 starts. He looks the likely leader and will be tough to beat again here tonight.
JOES A CHARACTER (5) returns from a 4 week freshen up. Was one of the stand out horses in South Australia a few back when he won 9 races from 13 starts. If he can return to that form he will be extremely dangerous and must be considered.
POCKET THEDEAL (7) was a winner last start in a claimer in a time of 1.56.4. He will find this a bit tougher tonight but appears to be racing in solid form. He is a chance despite the tricky draw.
BOBBIES DELIGHT (6) has won 3 of her last 5 and can always feature in a race like this.

Race 3:  ARCLIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY PACE
LINDI LINCOLN (3) is a three year old filly from New Zealand having her first career start in SA tonight for the well respected Les Harding stable. She has had the 8 career starts for 1 win and 2 placings. She looks well rated against this field and looks like she will be a strong contender.
EDWINA EXPRESS (1) is ideally drawn and she was a strong winner 2 starts back. She must be considered.
WHITE STAR STEPHIE (4) and JUSTABITOFHEAVEN (5) look th next best.

Race 4: VALE GAVIN LANG CLAIMING PACE
CALCAVADO (5) was a strong winner on Monday after he won by 1.5 meters. He should be able to lob a nice position in the run tonight and come home strongly. He looks tough to beat.
STRAIGHT THRU BLUE (7) has been gradually working his way back to his top form over the last month. He has been racing well without much luck and he looks well suited in this race. He is a strong chance despite the tricky draw.
ALWAYS MY MATE (4), ROBERT THE BRUCE (6) and MAJOR KIWI (1) are also chances.

Race 5: 2020 ALABAR GOLDEN NURSERY (FINAL)
The Golden Nursery final has assembled a very talented field.
SANUR BEACH (9) ran second last start after sitting outside of the leader. That was his first run for 2 months. He will benefit from that hit out and he should be able to lob into a strong position from his draw.
DANCING FINN (1) brings the best form into this race. She is going for 5 wins in a row tonight. She is a strong winning chance from the inside draw.
ARTILLERY (10) was a winner on debut when he led to take out a heat of the Golden Nursery in 2.01.9. He will find it a bit tougher from position 10 tonight but he has to be considered.
BLACKTOP ROCK (8) will be able to secure a nice position during the run from the inside of the second row draw. He can definitely feature as well after winning 2 of his first 3 career starts.

Race 6: FIRST CARE MEDICAL 3YO PACE
WHATABRO (4) has won 2 of his last 3. He didn’t have a lot of luck in his most recent run and came up against tougher competition. He looks well rated against this field.
SUMMATERRA (6) has been hard to fault since making his debut. He has had the 3 career starts for 2 wins and 1 placing. This will be his toughest assignment, but he has to be considered despite the tricky draw.
FAIRIIESDELIGHT (1) will benefit from the inside draw.
CHANGEUP (2) looks the next best.

Race 7: HYGAIN REGAIN TROTTERS DISCRETIONARY HANDICAP
CHAMPAGNE PRINCE (5) looks a class above here. He brings the best form into the race and will be extremely tough to beat.

POSSIBLE RESUMPTION OF TRIALS
HRSA would like to advise trainers that the resumption of trials appears to be on course, following another successful week with no new COVID19 cases in South Australia. With the current levels South Australia is experiencing and the Government giving consideration to reductions on certain restrictions, it remains the intention of HRSA to recommence trials for all horses, as of Sunday 17th May, with the first trials to be conducted at the Gawler Harness Racing Club and then the following Sunday (24th May) at Globe Derby Park.
The resumption of trials will continue to be subject to review, as it will be based on Government decisions over the coming weeks.

Participants will now be able to update their bank details through Harness Web….an individual, or Manager of a partnership will be allowed to make changes and it will automatically send an email to all partnership members.

ADDITIONAL MEETINGS
The restrictions on our allowed ‘footprint’ at any particular race meeting as a result of COVID-19 remain in place. As such, to accommodate the demand of the current racing population HRSA has negotiated with Sky to conduct an additional 3 Tuesday night meetings in May.

3YO CONCESSION
As from May 1 HRSA has commenced programming races whereby 3yo horses can take advantage of the newly adopted 3yo concession approved by Harness Racing Australia. The rule is as follows:
A 3yo with a Rating greater than 50 that is nominated for an Open Age Race may at the discretion of the State Controlling Body claim a concession of up to 5 Ratings Points excepting that:
  1. The minimum Rating of the subject 3yo cannot be less than NR50.
Example:
A 3yo with a Rating of 53 would thus have a Rating of 50 for an Open Age Race.
It will be noted in the race conditions of any race in which the 3yo concession will apply.

TROTTERS
As from May 1 HRSA has made some changes to how horses will be handicapped in standing start handicap events, particularly in the lower grades. Examples include: Maiden horses being handicapped in advance of horses which have won a race and multiple winners receiving an additional handicap for recent winning performances.

BALLOTS
As a result of the current restrictions on field sizes and number of races at meetings due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, there has been an increase in the number of horses receiving ballots at meetings in SA. In an effort to overcome this, as from May 1 2020 any horse which receives a ballot on 2 occasions in a row will be assured of a start the next time they enter for a race and will be exempt from the ballot (excluding feature events). This exemption does not include if a horse receives a ballot due to having an unfulfilled engagement or nominating late for a race
