April Showers bring....mushrooms?!
April Notes....
April, not March, roared into our valley with all kinds of weather...sun, wind, rain, snow! Tulips and Daffodils bravely showed their colors through the snow.

Want to see some local art?! Take some time to take a look at the TVAA shows that are showing or will be soon:
Pale Blue Dot - 4/11-7/12 - Meridian City Library
Sensation - 5/3-9/13 - Nampa Civic Center
Show-Off - 4/27-7/19 - Treasure Chest Gallery
Imagine - 1/25-4/26 - Treasure Chest Gallery

Save the date for our next General Meeting:
June 6 at the Downtown Library in the Marion Bingham Room
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Becka Watkins to tell us about NFTs

Check the new postings of opportunities. There is everything from studio space, mural roster, an art battle and a call to artists from Catalyst Arts Collaborative. Still open is Illumibrate, Spirit Cat House, and Joyful: A Celebration of Children.

If you have a special exhibit or showing for next month's newsletter let me know. I try to publish the newsletter on or near the 15th of the month.

Thanks so much!

SUREL'S PLACE LWC ART STUDIOS
Deadline: Saturday, April 30th

Apply for a year-long subsidized studio space in the Surel Mitchell Live-Work-Create District. We anticipate that the cost to the artist will be no more than $200 per month.

Open to all artists. Artists of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds encouraged to apply.

APPLY HERE (https://forms.gle/rLtiQXmVhL8juLiRA)

Artists to be notified in early May. It is our goal to get you into your studio by May 16th.

As the heart of the arts district in Garden City, we are often contacted by artists looking for studio space. Occasionally there are studios available at sPacePort or at the Midtown Business Park, but we are interested in the opportunity of creating incubator spaces to allow artists to establish a studio practice and graduate into a professional space. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to facilitate some year-long studios for artists with the hope it can give stability to develop your craft and build your career. These studios are not at Surel's Place, but they are in the district.

Call-to-Artists

"Footprints: Leaving Our Mark"

Catalyst Arts Collaborative is hosting a fundraiser for our Art Start fund. All pieces will be auctioned during the Gem Center for the Arts' grand re-opening gala on May 19, 6-9pm. Artists are encouraged to attend and bring friends. Proceeds from the sale of artwork will be split 50/50 between the artists and our Art Start fund. 100% of this fund goes directly back to the community in the form of scholarships and paid opportunities for working artists. We will also host an upcycled/recycled fashion show, several performance acts, resident artists in their studios, as well as additional artist booths. We will do lots of marketing for this event, which will include press releases. The Lounge at the End of the Universe is graciously hosting our event in their lovely space within the Gem Center. Artwork will be hung throughout our 24,000 square-foot facility. Open to all artists in and around the Treasure Valley, as we hope to showcase the wide variety of artists in (y)our community. Performing artists are welcome to submit high quality photos of their shows, as well. We will incorporate a strong message of art advocacy and support for artists in the community.

Submission: All mediums welcome, ideally 12x12" to serve as each artist's "footprint." Open to other sizes, up to 24x36". Must be ready to hang securely with wire. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces of their choosing. $5-$35 sliding scale entry fee to help us cover hanging costs and promotion for the event. Please pay what you are able.  Artists are also welcome to enter a piece without paying an entry fee if they are donating 100% of the sale to the Art Start Fund.

The plan is to offer these engagements and add more as they come to us for Illumibrate. They are building sealife and working on costumes. They also have a digital makers opportunity and plan to add more challenges in the coming months. The goal is to build it back up to the energy level that they experienced in 2018 and 2019.
100% of ticket sales and donations and 10% of art sales from this event will go to the Women's and Children's Alliance. Seats for the Steve Eaton Sapphire Room show must be reserved in advance.
SUNDAY, APRIL 24TH
Our first annual JOYFUL is an event celebrating children, art and music. The Riverside Hotel is hosting JOYFUL in the Ballroom on April 24th, 2022. Starting at 11Am and ending at 8PM, JOYFUL is bringing together artists, musicians and the community for Child Abuse Awareness Month and to raise funds for the Women's and Children’s Alliance of Boise. With over 30 artists, vendors, live painting and live music starting at 11am, this event will have something for everyone. 10% of the artist and vendor proceeds will be donated to the Women and Children's Alliance of Boise.

At 5pm the Youth Art Exhibit will be open near the Sapphire Room entrance. Here, we will exhibit the art work of our area’s youth. For many of them, this will be their first time in exhibition. Many are choosing to have their work for sale to the public.
STEVE EATON & FRIENDS
At 7PM Steve Eaton and Friends will be performing in the Sapphire Room. Tickets are required for entrance to this portion of the event and are available at the link below. 100% of ticket sales and donations will go to the WCA.

We will have guest speakers before the performance, and will be taking donations for WCA during the concert.
For years, Steve Eaton has been identified as a unique and innovative songwriter and musician. An Idaho native, Steve has written songs for The Carpenters, Art Garfunkel and Lee Greenwood to name a few. As a performer and band-member, Steve has played on stages in a variety of venues all over the country. He was a member several popular 60s bands including The Fabulous Chancellors, and performed as lead guitarist for Paul Revere and the Raiders. Steve was the founder and co-creator of Fat Chance, a power horn and acoustic rock band originating from Idaho and signed on the RCA/Victor label. Steve has opened for Ray Charles, Blood Sweat and Tears and Carol King. Steve lives in the Boise foothills where he has a recording studio and continues to perform in venues throughout the world.
ABOUT THE WCA
For over 40 years, WCA has been at the forefront of providing services to those healing from domestic abuse and sexual assault. Since its founding, WCA’s crisis program has evolved into one of the most vital, unduplicated, comprehensive programs in our community and region. WCA is proud to be a community leader in providing these critically needed services. The WCA has been an important community partner for over 110 years and providing safe spaces for members of our community has always been at the core of their mission.
WCA was chosen as the beneficiary of our event this year because the services they offer to domestic and sexual abuse survivors has impacted so many lives for the better. They have created a safe haven for survivors to be able to heal, grow and thrive. We are pleased to be able to be part of the first annual JOYFUL event and are looking forward to this fun, uplifting and exciting day!
