REMINDER: Meet the New Principal - June 1st

Jesse HerreraMr. Jesse Herrera has been appointed as thee new principal of DeBakey High School. Principal Herrera joins Debakey HSHP after serving as principal of Baylor College of Medicine Biotech Academy at Rusk.

A meet-and-greet will be held on Wednesday, June 01, 2022 at 5:30PM at DeBakey HSHP.

Eye on Houston: High School Documentary Photography Exhibit

On May 21, high school students from around Houston were recognized at an Artist's Reception for their contribution to the Eye on Houston: High School Documentary Photography exhibit.The exhibit celebrate's Houston's diverse neighborhoods through a collaboration between HISD and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH). Selected works will be on display at the MFAH through Spring 2023.

Purdue University - Machine Learning Virtual Short Summer Course

Purdue Engineering is offering a virtual short course this summer for advanced students in grades 9-12 who have had algebra and are interested in machine learning.  The program runs from June 6-10th
  • Machine Learning for High School & Undergraduate Students
  • Dates: June 6-10, 2022
  • Time:  8:00am-11:00am (EDT), Synchronous Instructor:  Dr. Stanley Chan
  • Cost:  $200.00 per registrant
Designed for advanced students in high school grades 10-12 and Year 1-2 college students with an interest in machine learning, this course will present and practice introductory concepts in machine learning.  The course will be delivered synchronously with time built-in for practice, questions, and review.  Students will learn how to write Python programs and some mathematical concepts that are used universally in machine learning.  Topics to cover include: Evaluating functions, reading and writing images, matrices and vectors, fitting data with a line, minimizing a loss function, extracting features from images, and how classification works.  Pre-requisite: High School Algebra 2

HOSA National Conference - Donations Needed

HOSA's International Leadership Conference will be held from June 22-26 in Nashville, TN. DeBakey HSHP has several students who have qualified to attend the conference, however, they are requesting assistance to pay for airfare to Tennessee.

Donations are currently being accepted in SchoolPay. Donations of any amount are welcome. If you would like to make a donation, please log into school pay and search for '2022 HOSA International Conference June 22-26, Nashville, TN'

LAST CALL: We Want Your Feedback! DeBakey 50th Anniversary Celebration

We are thrilled to inform you that 2022 is the 50th Anniversary for our beloved school. We want to celebrate this milestone with a celebration that you ALL are invited to attend. DeBakey HSHP will host a 50th Celebration 2-day event, October 28-29, 2022. The festivities will be held at the school's beautiful new building located in the Houston Medical Center as well as the Health Museum in the museum district. 

We have created a google form for you to fill out that will help us plan this special event. This form will be collecting information until May 31, 2022. Here is the link to the google form:
