HRB Summer Music Success Plan
WHAT IS A MSP?:

The Hays Music Success Plan (MSP) is designed to better prepare the individual musician and ensemble for the upcoming marching season. The plan gives strict guidelines for students to follow throughout the course of the summer to allow them the ability to keep-up with their playing skills as well as better prepare their chance at being selected as a primary marcher in the 2020 marching show. Students who keep up with the assignments outlined in the plan provided below will find extreme personal growth in the fall and will serve as a reliable and responsible team member for the band program. We have high expectations for all members of the Hays Band program, so ALL instrumentalists are encouraged to strictly adhere to the musical success plan. Percussion and Color Guard members will have their own assignments delegated by their respective instructors. 

WHY HAVE A MSP?:
In order for the Hays Band program to continue reaching higher levels of success both on and off the marching field, students are expected to do their part in helping improve the overall musical performance of the ensemble throughout the summer break. This of course starts with the day-to-day efforts that an individual chooses to partake in in order to enhance their own performance. It is important to remember that the band is a TEAM. When a teammate does not do their fair-share of training, the whole team suffers just a little bit more. By keeping up with these summer assignments and continuing to stay playing and engaged, each student who participates in the MSP is helping the team to achieve a higher level of musical performance and success. As a team of Directors, we will reference the progress of each student when deciding performance spots for this fall.

2020 Uniform Fittings 
All Band & Color Guard Members
 
We have been granted permission by the district to hold socially distant uniform sizing days as we continue to make preparations for next years marching season. This fall, the band will be using new custom uniforms that require these precise measurements. This uniform is in addition to our traditional grey and red Hays Band uniform. We will do fittings for our traditional Hays Band uniform on the band check-in day scheduled for July 18th. It is incredibly important that ALL band students sign-up for a day and time that works best for them. 30 minute breaks have been implemented after every hour throughout the days to allot for sanitation procedures. 

All Brass, Woodwind and Percussion students will need to sign up on either Thursday (11th), Friday (12th) or Monday (15th). We are encouraging percussion students to sign-up for Thursday or Friday if possible to avoid any potential conflicts with Drumline camp / auditions on Monday.

If a student is unable to make any of the days listed above, they will need to email Mr. Collins at

Color Guard members will need to sign-up for Tuesday, June 16th ONLY. If you have a conflict with this date, please email Mrs. Martinez ASAP - haysrebelguard@gmail.com

Hello Hays 2020 Percussion!

We have been approved for Percussion Auditions for the 2020 Marching Season. There are specific safety protocols that must be followed and please read through them thoroughly. Each student will be allowed two instruments of choice to audition for. A primary choice and a secondary choice from the list below:

-Snare
-Tenor
-Bass
-Cymbals
-Marimba
-Vibraphone

Each instrument has two days allotted for auditioning individuals. This means that you will choose one day for your primary choice and another day for your secondary choice. After gathering all sign up information, we will release time slots for each individual with their days marked. All material that will be used for auditions will be exercises from the Percussion Camps hosted at Hays this Spring Semester, as well as displaying an understanding of technique for the specific instrument. You do not need to know show music for the audition. Attached below is the schedule:

AUDITION SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Student Health Physicals
2020-2021 School Year

A little bit of good news in regards to the required physical health forms! All band students physical health forms are now valid for two year periods. Therefore if you were a member of the Hays Band last year, you will NOT need to complete a physical for this next school year! However, all incoming Freshmen members WILL need to complete a physical health form, regardless if they completed one last year for any activities in middle school. 

All incoming freshmen members will need to schedule an appointment with their primary physician or schedule a date at a local health clinic to receive their physical health inspection. Given today's circumstances we strongly suggest that parents start scheduling appointments ASAP to ensure that their child receives their physical clearance for marching band. 

All incoming freshmen band members will need to turn in their completed physical form during the band check-in day scheduled for July 18th. Absolutely no freshmen member will be allowed to begin summer band activities without having a completed physical form on file. This can severely jeopardize the students spot on the field.

We want to remind all members and their parents / guardians that all band fees are to be paid in full by September 1st, 2020. This is an extension from our original deadline of July 18th due to Covid-19. 

Band fees do not need to be paid all at once. Our system allows for payments of any amount to be applied to their student's accounts at any day and time. Again, all balances must be paid in full by the September 1st deadline. A breakdown of fees is provided below. Please note that not all fees are applicable to all students. 

FEE BREAKDOWN:

Fair Share Fee (All Band & Color Guard Members) - $275.00
Custom Uniform Fee (Woodwind, Brass & Percussion Members Only) - $100
Color Guard Uniform Fee (Color Guard Members Only) - $150
Instrument Usage / Rental Fee (only applicable to those listed below) - $125
