Lyre to hold music. (each member must have their own lyre)
Red water jug (filled with water.)
Hays Band Shirt
Compression Shorts
Black Band Shoes
LONG Black Socks (Mid-Calf)
Inhalers (if needed)

Game Day Meal - IMPORTANT!!!
Students - please remember that our use of the cafeteria on Friday afternoons falls outside of the normal school hours. Therefore it is a courtesy and a privilege to have the additional space to eat and socialize. With that said, we must do a better job of cleaning up our own individual items. Last game day we had too many students leave behind trash. If we all pitch in and do our part, we will ensure that we are respecting our school and janitorial staff as well as representing the band program to the best of our ability.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Clean Up Crew

We had a successful first week of clean up crew! Thank you for being efficient and leaving our band hall in tip-top shape. If you were a student who decided to skip uniform inspection after the game, your name will be added to the clean up crew list for this weeks game against Anderson.

Students assigned to Clean Up Crew must stay and help tidy up the band hall after game day. It is the student’s responsibility to inform parents of this obligation before returning to Hays HS from the game. Clean Up Crew is assigned to students who are late to marching practice (AM/PM), not in compliance with rehearsal expectations (either practice or performance), gum chewing, eating, or drinking in band hall, or commit other minor infractions. Students who fail to hang uniform properly will be assigned Clean Up Crew the following week.
PRIVATE LESSONS:
NOW IS THE TIME TO START!!
Thank you to those who have enrolled your band student in private lessons! Our band program has continued to be elevated by your support and dedication to your student. It makes a HUGE difference!

How to get a head start on success at Hays High School
Each instrument has special needs, tendencies, and we partner with some of the finest trained professionals in their fields.  There is no substitute for taking lessons with an individual who performers or specializes on a specific instrument, and we work to find the best fit for each of our band members.

Many think that “private lessons” or “tutoring” are only needed for kids who are struggling with their instrument … while it is great for “extra help” as it suggests, those students who are excelling on their instruments benefit equally and usually excel to a whole new level of performance.

It is virtually impossible to achieve success in the TMEA All-State Process without coaching from a private lesson instructor .

Even if your band member will not pursue music as a career, taking lessons teaches responsibility, goal setting, and commitment to a craft or process.  The art of learning to commit and work towards excellence applies far beyond learning to play an instrument.

We will see a significant increase in the overall success of the Hays Rebel Band program as we continue to increase the amount of individual students enrolled in private lessons!
MORE INFO ABOUT PRIVATE LESSONS
Message from the Booster President -

Band Family!

We have the largest and most active booster organization at Hays High school so THANK YOU for all your hard work & support!

As you know, we are a 5013c, a non-profit organization with a sole goal of raising money to give back to our band program. Every dime we raise from spirit item orders, meal plans or big events, goes to our band. Do you know a local small (or big) business owner who would like to advertise to a larger base? If that’s a YES, please invite them to become a Rebel Band sponsor! Go to our website for the details on what that gets them & how to do it.

Our next BIG event is the ‘Rebels & Rides Car Show’ on Saturday November 10th at the PAC. Please reach out to vendors who’d like a booth and car enthusiasts who’d like to display their amazing cars. They can sign up on the website under the booster store tab! Please see the additional information below.

Lesley Allen,
Hays Band Booster President

ADDITIONAL / REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Vista Ridge Marching Competition
(3 weeks away!!)

We are just THREE weeks away from taking our 2018 production entitled "Torn" on the road to our first competition of the season!

The first contest of the season always brings much excitement and perhaps a little bit of nerves. With that said, it is important to keep in mind that contests are never about the trophy, but rather the experience and process in which we prepare. It's about showcasing our talents and putting on an amazing and entertaining production for all who are in attendance! We will also have the opportunity to compete and witness many other GREAT bands at the Vista Ridge contest, as well as the additional contests in which we will be traveling to this fall.

We as directors want to challenge all members of the ensemble to continue to rehearse like champions and to bring their all to each and every rehearsal! Remember that the message this year is ACCOUNTABILITY. If we continue to hold all members of the ensemble to a high level of success, we will achieve great things this season. YOU have the ability to achieve wonderful things as a group, as you have shown in the past. YOU are a FANTASTIC group of individuals who deserve to be recognized for your hard work and most importantly, YOU have all the potential in the world. Let's continue to work smart and work hard and YOU will have a program that you are proud of!
