Manual Medicine Approaches to the Lower Extremity

September 28-29 in Sonoma, CA

Learn to assess and treat key areas of the body including:

  • Joint capsules of the hip, knee and ankle
  • Key stabilizing muscles of the lower extremity
  • The tibiofibular interosseous membrane
  • Plantar fascia and intrinisic muscles of the foot
  • Pectineus, adductor magnus and the adductor hiatus, popliteus, tibialis posterior, quads, hamstrings, peroneals and more

Day One: The Hip and Knee

Here we will look at the bony, muscular and fascial structure of the hip and knee. You will learn global myofascial approaches to the lower extremity as well as counterstrain and muscle energy for the:

  • Hip and knee joints
  • Key regional muscles such as pectineus adductor magnus, quads, hamstrings and articularis genu

Day Two: The Ankle and Foot

Using myofascial, muscle energy and counterstrain techniques, we will explore the mechanics and myofascial treatment approaches for:

  • Tibiofibular interosseous membrane
  • Ankle and foot joints
  • Plantar fascia and intrinsic foot muscles

Dates: September 28-29, 2019

Times: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm with 1.5 hr lunch

Manual Medicine Approaches to the Lumbar Spine and Pelvis

Learn to assess and treat key areas of the body including:

  • Diaphragms
  • Vertebral transition zones
  • Lumbar, sacral and coccygeal motion dysfunctions
  • The sacrotuberous and sacrospinous ligaments
  • Psoas, quadratus lumborum (Q-Hell), piriformis, the glutes and tensor fascia latae
Day One: The Lumbar Region

Here we will look at the bony, muscular and fascial lumbar region. You will learn global fascial approaches to the low back as well as counterstrain and functional techniques for the:
  • Thoraco-lumbar junction
  • Lumbar vertebral mechanics
  • Key regional muscles such as psoas and quadratus lumborum
Day Two: The Pelvis

Using muscle energy and counterstrain techniques, we will explore sacral and coccygeal vertebral mechanics and myofascial treatment approaches for:
  • Sacral and coccygeal dysfunctions
  • Key pelvic muscles such as TFL, the gluteus medius, piriformis and obturator internus and externus
  • Sacrotuberous and sacrospinous ligaments

Dates: November 9-10, 2019

Times: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm with 1.5 hr lunch

About Joshua

Dr Joshua Margolis has been practicing manual medicine and bodywork since 1995, and acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine since 2001. From 2005 to 2009, he was on faculty at The Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences in Oakland and The Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley teaching anatomy, orthopedic acupuncture, advanced channel theory, and pain management. Currently, he is on staff at The Osteopathic College of Ontario and leads his own manual medicine courses around the country.

In Joshua's years of practice in the Bay Area, he has gained a diverse and loyal following, comprised of professional musicians, dancers, yogis, restaurateurs, and athletes, as well as children, the elderly, and those with severe chronic illnesses. Joshua has been voted The Bohemian's "Best Holistic Practitioner" five times from 2015-2019. He has been practicing at Farmacopia in Santa Rosa since 2011.
