Faculty and staff from Collège Boréal, Cambrian College, and Laurentian University are invited to participate in a free conference to further develop relationships and synergies to enhance the  Indigenous student experience across our institutions.

You will have the opportunity to learn more about the history of Indigenous education at the postsecondary level in Sudbury and hear first-hand from Indigenous students about the opportunities and challenges they have experienced during their academic journeys. Lunch and snacks provided.

Case Study: Knowledge, Subject, Research, Method, Criteria, Data, Evidence, Conclusion

Thursday February 27, 2020 from 8:30am - 12:30pm 
Limited to 40 participants

At the end of the session, participants should be able to:
  • Describe the practical preparation required to teach each case-based class successfully
  • Search and find relevant cases for their courses and topics
  • Give examples of how to design a case-based unit or course
  • Describe the facilitation techniques required to effectively lead students in case-based learning

Article Spinners and Academic Dishonesty

Faculty are reporting multiple instances of a certain form of academic dishonesty. This short video introduces you to article spinning, how students do it, and what you can do to negate it.

Teaching With Tech: Blended Learning MOOC

Blended Learning MOOC

Athabasca University, in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning, has developed a new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) titled Blended Learning Practice. The course is intended for anyone interested in designing blended (also called hybrid) learning opportunities. 

The course runs for four weeks, starting on March 1, 2020. There is no fee to register. 

If there is interest, Jessica O’Reilly can coordinate regular check-ins with Cambrian colleagues who are enrolled in the course. Please email Jessica if a cohort-based approach to completing this MOOC is interesting to you.

Try This!  Join a Book Club 

The Educational Developers Caucus (EDC) invites our faculty and staff to join their book club, led by Mel Young, featuring the book An Urgency of Teachers: The work of Critical Digital Pedagogy by Sean Michael Morris and Jesse Stommel.

In January and February, Mel led a series of Twitter chats using hashtag #edcbookclub.

The book club is continuing February to April via Zoom. View the book club schedule here with the questions for each section added weekly. 

There will be four hosted Zoom meetings for people who would like to discuss the book via chat/video/audio on the following dates:

  1. Chat 1: Thursday, February 20 at 7pm EST.
  2. Chat 2: Thursday, March 19 at 7pm EST.
  3. Chat 3: Thursday, April 9 at 7pm EST.
  4. Final Chat: Thursday, April 30 at 7pm EST.
