The Haiti Project values our Haitian partners who do the work on the ground in Jeannette. This year the Haiti Project worked with a Haitian staff person to assist with communication and implementation of programs. Jenjenio Conserve, who assisted for three years as a translator and trip leader for the Haiti Project, has been serving as our Project Coordinator in Jeannette for a full year.
Investing in leaders like Jenjenio not only values local leadership, but also builds a foundation for the future. As local leaders receive the training they need to serve and the living wage they need to stay in rural communities, “brain drain” is slowed. The community’s most important resource – people – is not lost to larger cities or foreign countries. The community becomes less dependent on outside funders, building a community that sustains itself in healthy ways.
