There's so much news to share, but to start off, the Haiti Project wants to thank YOU for your support. We are facing an increasingly difficult budget shortfall. Your help and support are more important than ever. So thank you for your contributions-- be it time, donations or creativity as we figure out the best ways to reach and expand our community during the pandemic.

An update from St. Marc's School

As there are no cases of COVID-19 reported in the community and the Haitian Government has ordered all schools open to complete the 2019-20 school year. St. Marc's school will open the doors on August 10th to welcome our teachers and students back for an intensive completion of the school year. Teachers are planning to work intensively to salvage the school year which was negatively impacted due to political unrest and then the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please pray for the students, teachers and administrators of St. Marc's school as they embark on the challenging tasks ahead.

A Report from the Clinic

The very best news is that there are no cases of COVID-19 in Jeannette! The clinic staff are employing enhanced cleaning protocols and use of personal protective equipment to help ensure the safety of staff and patients.

Using funds from a grant the Health Committee secured late last year, Dr. Elie has arranged for a pharmacist to hold a three-day training for the clinic's staff regarding proper pharmacy policy and procedures. Continuing education of the clinic staff has been a priority for the Health Committee. The Health Committee has also secured a $1,000 grant from the Diocese of Milwaukee to pay for medications that are frequently needed in the community. Every bit helps and we are continuously in need of medications to treat hypertension, diabetes and general antibiotics.

Another priority for the Committee has been increasing access to a wider variety of services at the clinic. Currently, Pére Moïse and Dr. Elie are working to bring mobile eye and dental care to the community. Dr. Elie is in contact with the head of the eye clinic in Fond du Blanc to see if St. Marc's clinic has adequate facilities to house an ophthalmology technician. Pére Moïse is taking the lead to locate a mobile dentist.

Dr. Elie has also informed us of a young girl who needs an operation on her throat for a painful condition. As of now, we are uncertain as to the total costs, but if you are able to help please send your contribution to Haiti Project PO Box 511748 Milwaukee, WI  53203-9998. Please note on your check that the donation is for medical expenses.
