Welcome Service for the Bishop of Birkenhead

A Welcome Service for Bishop Julie Conalty will take place this evening at Christ the King, Birkenhead. The service will be attended by Bishops Mark, Julie and Sam as we give thanks for the beginning of Bishop Julie’s ministry amongst us. The event is fully booked but you will be able to watch the service online here, starting at 7pm. 

Bishop Sam's service took place at St George's, Stockport on 14 October and can be viewed here on St George's Facebook page. 

Cathedral COP 26 exhibition


As COP 26 approaches and world leaders set out their plans to combat the climate crisis, we ask: “What impact can little old me really make?” Expect free talks from experts, and panel discussions about the big sustainability questions facing society in the coming decades. 

Woodchurch receives Green Flag Award


Holy Cross Woodchurch Churchyard has achieved the Green Flag Award. The Green Flag Award scheme recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces. Holy Cross Churchyard is one of 2127 award-winning green spaces.

Net zero service


Parishes are invited to hold a net zero service between now and the 7 November. Resources are available to help parishes measure the carbon footprint of their services, including travel emissions, heating, lighting and electricity. Take a look at the helpful resources
 

Lay Licensing Service


On Saturday 9 October Bishop Mark admitted and licensed twelve lay people at a special service held at Chester Cathedral. There were nine Readers, one Pastoral Worker and two Lay Pioneers. Seven Readers and one Pastoral Worker were licenced to this diocese, and eighteen Readers and four Pastoral Workers became emeritus. Please continue to hold all our lay ministers - new and emeritus, young and old - in your prayers. General Synod election results 2021


The voting and subsequent counting of the votes for the General Synod election for the Diocese of Chester has now been completed. The counting of votes took place on the afternoon of 13 October 2021. View the results here.

Clergy Gathering 2022 


The Revd Dr Sharon Prentis has been confirmed as a key note speaker at the Clergy Gathering 2022. The conference will take place between 16 and 19 of May 2022 at Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, Derbyshire. Booking is essential but has not yet opened. Further details will be announced in the E-Bulletin. 

New guidance for church buildings: access and metal theft


The CofE’s Church Buildings Council has published guidance on Equal access to church buildings. Also, Historic England has updated its guidance on metal theft from church roofs and replacement materials and provided supplementary guidance specifically on Terne-coated stainless steel.

Keeping church roofs and rainwater goods safe and secure


Please see the diocesan guidance on preventing Heritage Crime and what to do in the unfortunate event of Metal Theft . The All Churches Trust (ACT) is offering funding to parishes to help towards the cost of roof alarms For more information click here. With the autumn leaves starting to fall, it is worth planning gutter clearance to prevent blockage and water ingress that may lead to larger, more costly repairs, for general advice please click on Gutters and Church Buildings Maintenance.

Partnership for Missional Church


For a number of years CMS have been offering Partnership for Missional Church, a programme helping churches understand themselves, their communities and their calling. It has been widely used and much appreciated. They are currently offering generous subsidies to churches in the 20% most disadvantaged parish areas. Fundraising forum – invite to join


Do you have experience of fundraising that could help other parishes? Emily would like to set up a forum for fundraising, to collectively pool knowledge and enhance peer-to-peer support for parishes with less experience. The first online meeting will be held on Monday 29th November 2.00-3.30pm to discuss further. Youth Work Week is Coming!


Youth Work week is coming from 1 November – 7 November. The theme is Youth Work Champions. The National Youth Agency is inviting organisations, including churches, to let them know about youth work champions in their area – either a young person or a youth worker. PA to the Archdeacon of Chester

As PA you will be required to deal proactively with correspondence and enquiries, ensuring that the Archdeacon is well informed about issues and well prepared for meetings.

We are seeking a mission-minded incumbent for this parish of central tradition in Winsford, with a population of 11,000. St Chad’s is a striking medieval church, serving a mixed community of suburban and social housing with a rural hinterland. There is a good, modern vicarage.
