Consultation on who should be the next Bishop of Chester

The Church of England is looking to appoint the next Bishop of Chester to lead the Diocese of Chester, and the Vacancy in See Committee is seeking your views on who that person should be and the qualities he or she should have. 

There are three ways to participate in the consultation and it is open to all, please feel to share and pass on the details.

Diocesan Missioner Lyn Weston is leaving

The Revd Lyn Weston, Diocesan Missioner, is leaving Church House to take up an exciting new role nationally as Director of Church of England Relationships with LICC (London Institute of Contemporary Christianity). Lyn’s last day will be on Friday 13 September. 

Foxhill marks 50 year anniversary

Foxhill hosted a celebration event to mark its 50th anniversary on the 19 and 21 July. People who have been closely involved in the ministry at Foxhill were invited to attend. Bishop Peter led and celebrated a service of Holy Communion.

Assigned fees Direct Debit collection August

Due to staff holidays in August, the monthly fees Direct Debit will need producing earlier than usual. Please be advised that your July fees forms should be emailed to no later than 5pm on Monday 5 August. Any fees returns received after this time will be carried forward to the September run. The collection will still take place on or around the 20 August as normal. 

Preparation course for those called to Spiritual Accompaniment

If you have prior experience of faith-based study and exploration and if you have valued being accompanied by your own spiritual guide for a while, please consider whether God may be calling you to this demanding but rewarding ministry of accompanying others on their Christian journey. Further information and application forms are available from the Revd Graham Green, Diocesan Officer for Prayer and Spirituality. The course begins in January 2020, with applications invited by 30 September 2019. A Discernment Retreat will take place at Foxhill on 11 and 12 October 2019.

Foundations for Ministry

Places are still available on the Foundations for Ministry (FfM) course. In the past 21 years over 1100 people have followed this unique programme. With its focus on gaining a clearer understanding of an individual’s God-given vocation, people from all walks of life have used the insights FfM has given them. Hundreds of ministers, lay and ordained, have used it as a stepping-stone in their ministerial development. If you think this could be the course for you, get in touch


Archbishop Cranmer Awards 2019

The Cranmer Award is a reading competition for young people between the ages of 11 and 18. In this competition young people from the diocese are invited to read aloud sections from the Book of Common Prayer. The winners of the local heat are then invited to take part in the National Final. The local heat this year will be from 2pm on Saturday, 16 November at the Church of St Michael, Macclesfield. To enter or to obtain further details please email Nigel Pearson.

St Mary's, Rostherne, have 195 copies of Mission Praise words edition to dispose of, together with a small number of the music edition. The majority are in excellent condition and a significant number are almost unused. Contact the Revd Philip Robinson if interested

The Old Testament in the Church and Beyond: Clergy Consultation

Hosted by St George’s House, Windsor Castle, this Consultation is part of the Thinking God series. Led by experts in the field you will examine current thinking and review some of the best literature. This is an opportunity not only to refresh what you already know but also to engage with contemporary positions. Two places are reserved for clergy in the Diocese of Chester with at least five years' ministerial experience.
