Clergy Gathering live stream

Clergy will gather at the Hayes Conference Centre, Derbyshire on Monday for a four-day conference that will focus on Bible study and teaching around Mark 1:14-18. Each of the key speakers, and the bishop-led Bible study, will be live-streamed via the diocesan website and YouTube channel for all to see, including laypeople who want to join them online.

Writing in the Clergy Gathering Booklet, which has been circulated to all attendees, Bishop Mark Tanner said: "I cannot tell you how much I have been looking forward to this time together, and I am delighted that you are here. I pray that this will be a deeply refreshing time of fellowship, learning, worship and prayer as we look together at recasting the net."

It is the first time since becoming the Bishop of Chester that Bishop Mark has been able to bring all the clergy together.

Boost to diocesan discretionary funds

The Church of England is to make up to £3 million of funding available to dioceses for grants to help clergy and lay workers struggling with the cost of living crisis, in particular with rising energy bills. 

Director of Development to begin in June

Harriet Roberts has been appointed as the new Director of Development. The new role, funded by the National Church, has been created to help build a new vision and strategic direction for the diocese. 

Cathedral awaits delivery of Pilgrim Porch

Chester Cathedral is expected to take delivery of its new Pilgrim Porch in the next couple of weeks. The Dean of Chester has described the bronze and stainless-steel porch as a "thing of beauty". More

National funding to go up 30%

The Church of England has announced plans for a significant increase in funding for the next three years to support God’s mission and ministry across the country, supporting local parishes and growing new worshipping communities. 

Is Christianity feeding the secular commercial dieting industry?

As part of the University of Chester @Warrington Literature Festival, Professor Hannah Bacon (Theology and Religious Studies, University of Chester) will talk about the research behind her recent book: Feminist Theology and Contemporary Dieting Culture: Sin, salvation and women’s weight loss narratives. The event takes place on 10 June 2022, 11.00am - 12.00 noon. More information here

Promoting a Safer Church

In March, a new poster for 'Promoting a Safer Church' was produced, which now includes a number for a Men's Advice Line, offering potential freedom to almost 50% more domestic abuse victims, men, and their children. When the new posters are displayed on every church noticeboard and on websites, this can impact everyone. Please PSOs display the revised poster or an equivalent.
