New Partnership Launched in Haiti

Pictured: four members of Rayjon's Haiti team huddled around a tablet learning to use Puente's mobile app for data collection.
Rayjon Share Care has changed thousands of lives over decades of work in Haiti. Now, they're implementing Puente's data collection and analysis software to learn more about the challenges they're facing and optimize solutions to reach more people in need. Puente's software will support Rayjon's programs focused on early childhood nutrition, women's empowerment, microcredit, and more across the Cap Haitien and Saint Mark regions of Haiti. We had an unforgettable experience visiting Rayjon's team in Cap Haitien this week and are humbled and thrilled to play a part in their incredible work.
Our technology is now being used across three different countries (DR, Mexico and Haiti) to help NGO partners identify unmet needs and design solutions to address them. We're excited to be at the forefront of a global shift towards smarter, data-driven international development, and honored to play a part in helping great organizations use data to accelerate change in marginalized areas. If you know of any nonprofits that could benefit from using Puente's platform, please shoot us a note -- we're eager to provide this technology to more like-minded organizations working to change lives across the globe.

50 Bathrooms, Floors and Filters in One Month

Pictured: the Tejado Santos family in Cañada Las Palmas enjoys their new cement floor. Up until a few weeks ago, Ana Maria (23) and her four young children lived on a dirt surface and used a bucket as a bathroom.
In December, dozens of you helped us raise over $40,000 to expand our operations in Constanza and provide 200+ local families with bathrooms, floors, and/or water filters in 2020. We didn't waste time putting this money to work. With the help of our local team members, volunteers, and partners at Constanza Medical Mission, we had a record setting January and are 25% of the way to our stated goal after just one month.
Our 50 new project installations in January included 22 bathrooms (a new monthly record!), 15 water filters13 cement floors. It's hard to overstate how meaningful these projects are for the families involved. Ana Maria Tejado Santos, pictured above, is overjoyed because "my daughters live in a sanitary environment and don't have to leave the house to use the potty anymore."

Other News & Notes

Pictured: Yaniris Garcia, a former Puente Volunteer recently hired as a paid health promoter, updates a patient's case file using the Puente app.
  • Five local hires joined Puente's Constanza team in January, expanding our capacity to execute projects and monitor medical patients
    • Valentín Brioso is now Puente's Constanza Project Manager, supervising construction of all projects in the region. Valentín is the community leader in Los Gajitos and formerly completed Puente's Volunteer Training Program
    • Yaniris Garcia, Alba Martinez, Michelle Ferrera, and Yinetza Alvarez are now Puente Health Promoters, working with local clinics and NGO partners to connect patients to care and monitor their condition on a monthly basis. All four come from medical backgrounds and were previously trained as Puente volunteers
  • We worked with Health Outreach Foundation in January to reach 300+ people with free medical consultations, health seminars, medications, and more. A few notes on why we love this partnership:
    • Local physicians (recruited by Puente) work alongside US visitors in HOF's clinics, creating outstanding learning opportunities for doctors from both countries. Patients benefit most from this relationship, as doctors from both parties now work together to develop more fulsome, coordinated, year-round care plans
    • Puente's Health Promoters follow-up with critical patients after the mission to ensure they are visiting the clinic and adhering to their care plan. Our app allows the promoters to update patient records on-the-go and share information with HOF instantly so they can react to new developments in real-time
    • HOF is our longest-tenured partner, and we're thrilled that they've shifted more of their focus towards local capacity-building and year-round care provision
  • Please stay in touch and continue to promote and support our work!
