Since day one, Puente has been training Dominican volunteers to become community development advocates in their home cities. Our volunteers have accomplished so much in the past few years, and we're thrilled to announce that their opportunities to create impact with Puente are now expanding.
WaSH Director Tiven Buggy recently launched a new training program focused specifically on Water access, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) projects. This 4-week course teaches volunteers how to assess WaSH needs across a community and design solutions to meet the needs of residents. We expect graduates from this program to take an active role in not only surveying communities, but designing larger-scale WaSH projects, testing water quality, helping residents understand the importance of hygiene, monitoring the effectiveness of projects, and more. Our first WaSH program includes five incredibly motivated volunteers who are excited to work closely with Tiven on WaSH projects across the Constanza region.
Additionally, our core Community Development Training Program is back underway with a new instructor. Standout volunteer Yina Alvarez took this course last year, and is now sharing her knowledge with six new volunteers who are eager to mimic Yina's impact across the region.
All-in-all, we're now offering three distinct training programs for volunteers with different interests and skillsets:
- Our core Community Development Training Program gives volunteers a foundation of knowledge that applies across all areas of development and equips them to become effective surveyors, liasons, and community leaders
- Our Health Promoters Program gives volunteers with a medical background the ability to focus specifically on solving healthcare challenges in their communities
- Our new WaSH Program provides a similarly specialized path for volunteers with a passion for engineering and environmental matters.
Empowering locals is the best way to create sustainable impact, so we're proud to be providing more educational curriculum to more motivated volunteers!
