President's Message

In May, the Israeli Health Ministry announced its plans to ask the government to add Argentina to the list of “dangerous countries”.  Who dared to fly out of Israel to Argentina on the very same day?  Believe it or not, the Hadassah Medical Organization senior delegation did just that. But why?  Hadassah is about healing the world, and, with an urgent invitation coming from the Argentinian government, the delegation saw this as a powerful opportunity to share Hadassah’s Covid-19 medical expertise.  It was also about investigating the development of a Phase III trial of the Israeli Brilife vaccine against COVID-19 in Argentina.

The delegation was headed by Professor Yoram Weiss, director of Hadassah Ein Kerem (the Israeli hospital that served the most COVID-19 patients during the pandemic) and included Professor Sigal Sviri, director of Hadassah’s Intensive Care Unit for Covid-19; nurse Claudia Poggi, who worked as a Nursing Specialist in complex COVID-19 care at the Hadassah Hospital; Professor Dror Mevorach, head of one of the hospital’s COVID units and inventor of Allocetra, a treatment for the disease that has shown very good results, and Professor Yoseph Caraco, director of Hadassah Clinical Research, who is in charge of the Brilife vaccine, developed by the Israel Biological Research Institute. And serving as host, Jorge Diener, Executive Director, Hadassah International. Which person on the mission’s list surprised, and maybe, delighted you?

Was it gratifying for you, too, that a nurse was included?  Senior ICU Nurse, Claudia Poggi, addressed nurses from remote villages in the country through a video conference organized by the Argentinean Minister of Health. She shared the despair she felt while fighting for the life of each acute patient on respiratory support inside the Hadassah hospital COVID ICU units. Besides her recommendations, the most important message she repeated again and again - was that there is light at the end of darkness.  If you’d like to hear about the significance of Hadassah’s Medical Mission to Argentina:  A Bridge to Healing, please click here.
