Illinois Training & Technical Assistance Project Coordinator:
Focus Area(s): Individual/Organizational Capacity Building & Development
Goal of the Project: The VISTA member in coordination with the Training & Technical Assistance Program Manager to develop a training curriculum that will provide education and training to supportive service staff in the operations of supportive housing and the delivery of evidence-based practice services. In addition, the VISTA Member will work with the Training and Technical Assistance Manager to develop a SOAR new trainee cohort and will support the cohort members through the submission of the first application.
Illinois Supportive Housing Assessment (ISHA) Project Coordinator:
Focus Area(s): Government Affairs & Community Education
Goal of the Project: Illinois’ Supportive Housing Assessment (ISHA) project is the inaugural report on opportunities and barriers to meeting Illinois supportive housing need. Short-term achievements will be a universal needs objective in the amount of supportive housing available and needed for the housing vulnerable populations in Illinois including persons with substance use disorders. The long-term impact will enable Illinois to develop the amount of supportive housing needed to ensure the housing vulnerable, including the substance use population, can attain housing security. Supportive housing is an evidence-based housing intervention that provides affordable housing and supportive services to those who need them.

IDHS State Referral Network
Basic End User Training
Learn about the Statewide Referral Network (SRN), ILHousingSearch.org, how to access the online PAIR (Prescreening, Assessment, Intake, and Referral) Module, and how to add/maintain applications on behalf of eligible customers for units that are available through the SRN and Section 811 Project-Based Rental Assistance Programs.
Ensure that staff providing housing stabilization and support services from social service organizations in Illinois understand the eligibility criteria for and how to access state-provided permanent housing resources on behalf of their customers.

SHPA is working with our advocate and coalition partners to develop a complete Housing & Homeless budget request for the SFY24 State Budget.
If your organization provides transitional housing, please complete the following survey. We only need one from each organization so please discuss and identify the right person to answer the questions for your organization.
Please complete the transitional housing survey as soon as possible and no later than Friday, November 4th.
Together, we will collaborate to advance this effort through several activities in the coming weeks and months:
Collecting detailed surveys regarding the need for capital and operating funds for shelter and transitional housing
Preparing an Illinois Shelter Alliance & Transitional Housing Fact Sheet re our capital and operating funding needs
Preparing a press release and letter to the editor to highlight the urgent need for funding this winter
We will need to obtain photos to illustrate the need
We will need to prepare a few clients to share their stories in our materials or potentially be available to respond to reporters’ questions
Bob Palmer from Housing Action Illinois is setting up a meeting with IDHS
We will create a sign-on letter that will be posted online. We will distribute a link and collect names of organizational supporters from around the state.
At the appropriate time, we will each need to meet with our legislative leaders

Acting Commissioner Kilolo Kijakazi announced that the Social Security Administration (SSA) established an Office of Native American Partnerships within the Office of the Commissioner. This office will elevate and centralize efforts to administer comprehensive programs and policies related to American Indians and Alaska Natives. It will enhance the agency’s relationship with Tribes and serve as the primary point of contact on Tribal affairs for all stakeholders.
